The entire South did not succumb to the mystique of cotton. Based on this statement, which of the following is true A.Virginia and North Carolina continued to devote themselves to the tobacco industry B. South Carolina devoted itself to coal C. Georgia continued to devote themselves to tobacco D. Kentucky cultivated tobacco.

[ad_1]

The correct answer is A) Virginia and North Carolina continued to devote themselves to the tobacco industry.

The entire South did not succumb to the mystique of cotton. Based on the statement, what is true is that  Virginia and North Carolina continued to devote themselves to the tobacco industry.

With no doubt, cotton was the fascination for many farmers in the Southern states. They were dedicated to growing cotton and they did as much as they could. From 1810 to 1850, slavery was an important part of the economy of the Southern states. They depend so much on the labor force of slaves. But no all the states were fascinated with this “cotton fever.” Other Southern states were known for other products. That was the case of  Virginia and North Carolina that continued to devote themselves to the tobacco industry. South Carolina focused on the sugar plantations that were a good business too. Others states, such as Kentucky were renown because they bred and sold horses.

Why, in light of all the problems that occurred in tenement living, so many people continued to move into cities

[ad_1]

I’m assuming you’re talking about how cities such as New York and Chicago were overpopulated and held horrible living conditions, especially for workers there.

Well, simply, cities offered better resources no matter what. If you lived in the country, whatever you produced was based on the outdoor elements, but you had to deal with isolation of many people and institutions such as schools, doctors, ect. In the city, yes it was overpopulated and work conditions were terrible, but people had a mindset that better work for a penny that you know that you’ll get instead of hoping a dollar that can disappear because of a bad harvest year.

The table below represents the displacement of a horse from its barn as a function of time: Time(hours) x. 0 1 2 3 4 Displacement from barn (feet) y 8 58 108 158 208 part a: what is the y-intercept of the function, and what does this tell you about the horse? part b: calculate the average rate of change of the function represented by the table between x=1 to x=3 hours, and tell what the average rate represents. part c: what would be the domain of the function of the horse continued to walk at this rate until it traveled 508 feet from the barn?

[ad_1]

The polinomials only can have positive whole exponents, that is: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, … (you can include 0 also, because it iis the independent term).

So, if you are told that one term of the polynomial is 9 x ^ (negative something), it is necessary that the number after the negative sign be negative, given that negative times negative is positive.

Therefore, the only possible option from the answer choices is the option 3) -9.

Answer: 3) – 9

The table below represents the displacement of a horse from its barn as a function of time: Time(hours) x. 0 1 2 3 4 Displacement from barn (feet) y 8 58 108 158 208 part a: what is the y-intercept of the function, and what does this tell you about the horse? part b: calculate the average rate of change of the function represented by the table between x=1 to x=3 hours, and tell what the average rate represents. part c: what would be the domain of the function of the horse continued to walk at this rate until it traveled 508 feet from the barn? PLEASE HELP!! WILL RATE BRAINLIEST!!

[ad_1]

A. The
y-intercept (b) of a linear equation is obtained when x = 0. Therefore from the
given table,

y – intercept
= 8

Since at
time zero the displacement is 8 ft, this means that the horse was already
outside the barn initially.

B. The
average rate of change of the function represents the slope of the linear
equation (m). This can be calculated using the formula:

average rate
of change = m = (y2 – y1) / (x2 – x1)

m = (158 –
58) / (3 – 1)

m = 50

C.  Since we have determine the y-intercept and
the slope, we can formulate the linear equation:

y = m x + b

y = 50 x + 8

The domain
is the value of x. When y = 508, x is equivalent to

508 = 50 x +
8

x = 10 hrs

How did F.W. de Klerk work for African independence? He died fighting for the cause of freedom. He opposed apartheid and worked for reform. He continued to support independence even while in prison. He became the first president of South Africa.

[ad_1]

The Reformation actually started after Columbus’s landing in North America.

Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494 was forced on Spain and Portugal by the Pope. The Pope basically said that all lands in the New World belonged to Spain and all new non-Christian lands in the Eastern Hemisphere belong to Portugal. No other Catholic countries can do anything in those areas without the approval of the owner.

The pope basically drew two lines on the globe setting the border. The western line started at the north pole cut half way through Greenland and ended at the south pole. The new world was everything to the west. Problem is that it ran through a chunk of Brazil which is why Brazil is an ex-Portuguese colony.

The Eastern line starts at the North Pole runs through siberia, through the pacific just west of Japan, and cuts Australia in half. Of course, Australia hadn’t been discovered yet. Everything to the the east of this line is the new world.

Obviously, this treaty didn’t hold up well, but the reformation gave the protestant countries an excuse to explore the new world since they didn’t have to take orders from the Pope. Even so, France, a catholic country, ignored it too.

Really, the only country that was effected by the reformation in the exploration of the Americas was England. All the other countries, changed their religion once and then went to war with the nearest catholic country. Sweden became Lutheran and stayed that way. The Dutch Republic became Calvinists and stayed that way.

England kept switching. First it was Catholic. Then, Henry VIII made it protestant. Then, Henry’s daughter Mary I made it catholic again. Henry’s other daughter Elizabeth I (with the two hit movies) made it Protestant again.

Years latter, Oliver Cromwell over through the monarchy, executed the King Charles I, and established a Protestant fundamentalist religious military dictatorship. He outlawed drinking,smoking, gambling, theater, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and anything generally fun. He would have made Saudi Arabia proud. Basically, all you could do is work, pray, and die. Sex was allowed for creating children, but you couldn’t enjoy it.

When Cromwell died, the people of England said enough was enough and brought back the King. Charles II kicked out the fundamentalists and brought back drinking, smoking, gambling, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and having fun during sex. Incidentally, those were also all his hobbies.

This brings us to the famous Pilgrims. They were part of Cromwell’s crowd. They kept agitating a return to the no-fun policy. They annoyed everybody. They weren’t persecuted for practicing their religion, they were persecuted because they kept trying to force their religion on everyone else. Sort of like Southern Baptists.

Charles II was the most easy going monarch in British history. Do realize how annoying you have to be to get him to throw you out.

Charles’s brother James II was obsessed with turning Great Britain catholic again. After four years of trying, they kicked him and his followers out.

Answer:

The answer to this question corresponds to computing the largest root of our function. Due to the way in which the question is asked, we can have 2 answers based on the root criteria. Please, read on for the explanation.

Step-by-step explanation:

First, to graph the function we can use any graphing tool available, for this case we chose the free online tool called Desmos calculator. Attached is a graph of the function.

Desmos calculator already shows as the position of the 3 roots. Roots are points on a function whose y-component is zero, meaning the points where the function crosses the x axis.

From the graph we can see that these points are x= -5.211, x= -1.9 and x= 1.111.

The ambiguity of the answer comes in choosing the root either with the most positive value, or the root with the largest magnitude. From the way in which the question is asked, we could understand both of these cases.

In case the root with most positive value is asked, then the answer is x= 1.111. However, in case the root with largest magnitude is asked, then the answer is x= -5.211.

As a reference, you can have a look at the following links:

Which sentences in this excerpt from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “Winter Dreams” show that Dexter’s interest in Judy Jones has more to do with her beauty than her personality? It began like that—and continued, with varying shades of intensity, on such a note right up to the denouement. Dexter surrendered a part of himself to the most direct and unprincipled personality with which he had ever come in contact. Whatever Judy wanted, she went after with the full pressure of her charm. There was no divergence of method, no jockeying for position or premeditation of effects—there was a very little ment

The correct answer should be Dexter
surrendered a part of himself to the most direct and unprincipled
personality with which he had ever come in contact.

That is

the correct answer because her personality is not really one that is appealing to people since she’s unprincipled and direct, which shows that he was into her because of her charms.

When using the note-card system, what goes in the upper right-hand corner of the card?

The upper right-hand corner of the note-card contains the source information.

Usually the name of the author and/or the page number where the information on the card was found goes in the upper right-hand corner of the note-card. Maybe if you’re also using source cards, the upper right-hand corner will contain a source number, thus you can reference your source card for the necessary information. The top of the note-card should contain the title with the topic the information will deal with or support.

1. Read the excerpt from Fast Food Nation. Instead of relying upon a small, stable, well-paid, and well-trained workforce, the fast food industry seeks out part-time, unskilled workers who are willing to accept low pay. Teenagers have been the perfect candidates for these jobs, not only because they are less expensive to hire than adults, but also because their youthful inexperience makes them easier to control. Which of the following choices best presents a counterclaim to the argument presented in this excerpt? A. Teenagers have not yet developed skills that make them valuable employees in the workforce. B. Fast food restaurants are able to employ people who otherwise might not be able to find a job because of the low skill level required to perform the tasks. C. The McDonald brothers designed the Speedee Service System based on the assembly line systems of American factories in the early twentieth century. D. By law, fast food restaurants must offer equal employment opportunities to those seeking work. 2. Read the paragraph. Teaching the rambunctious group of canines at the obedience school was a great deal of work, but each instructor took a respite once the dogs were placed in their individual kennels. Which word is closest in meaning to the underlined word? A. vacation B. beverage C. payment D. break 3. Read the excerpt from Neil deGrasse Tyson’s “Death by Black Hole.” If you stumbled upon a black hole and found yourself falling feet-first toward its center, then as you got closer, the black hole’s force of gravity would grow astronomically. Curiously, you would not feel this force at all because, like anything in free fall, you are weightless. What you do feel, however, is something far more sinister. While you fall, the black hole’s force of gravity at your two feet, they being closer to the black hole’s center, accelerates them faster than does the weaker force of gravity at your head. The difference between the two is known officially as the tidal force, which grows precipitously as you draw nearer to the black hole’s center. For Earth, and for most cosmic places, the tidal force across the length of your body is minuscule and goes unnoticed. But in your feet-first fall toward a black hole the tidal forces are all you notice. Which sentence from the excerpt best supports the idea that falling into a black hole would be excruciatingly painful? A. Curiously, you would not feel this force at all because, like anything in free fall, you are weightless. B. What you do feel, however, is something far more sinister. C. For Earth, and for most cosmic places, the tidal force across the length of your body is minuscule and goes unnoticed. D.But in your feet-first fall toward a black hole the tidal forces are all you notice. 4. Read the excerpt from Rudolfo Anaya’s essay “Take the Tortillas Out of Your Poetry.” Tortillas and poetry. They go hand in hand. Books nourish the spirit, bread nourishes our bodies. Our distinct cultures nourish each one of us, and as we know more and more about the art and literature of the different cultures, we become freer and freer. . . . I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like to sample different ethnic foods, the breads of many many groups; just as many of us enjoy sampling books from different areas of the world. I travel to foreign countries, and I know more about myself as I learn more about my fellow human beings. Censorship imposes itself in my path of knowledge, and that activity can be justified by no one. Which phrase from the excerpt best helps the reader identify the author’s purpose? A. “I know more about myself as I learn more about my fellow human beings” B. “I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like to sample different ethnic foods” C. “many of us enjoy sampling books from different areas of the world” D. “we know more and more about the art and literature of the different cultures”

1. The correct answer is D. Although the excerpt uses teenagers as an example, the central claim is that fast food companies hire unskilled workers. Thus, it’s most effective to produce a counterclaim that actually debunks the initial argument. Since the fast food industry offers equal employment opportunities, it legally cannot seek only unskilled workers. 2. The correct answer is D. If you don’t know that “respite” means “break,” you can determine its meaning from context clues. The sentence begins by saying that teaching the dogs is a lot of hard work, so we can infer that the instructors were tired. Then, the sentence says that they took a respite when the dogs were put in their individual kennels, meaning that the instructors were no longer training the dogs. Thus, we can deduce that the trainers were on break, or taking a respite. 3. The correct answer is B. The word “sinister” is the key word that tells us falling into a black hole would be exruciatingly painful. “Sinister” is a feeling that something harmful or evil is happening. Thus, the use of sinister tells us that black holes would be horribly painful. 4. The correct answer is D. Throughout the poem, the poetic voice is comparing bread and books, specifically of other cultures. He’s trying to show us that by eating different cultural foods and reading literature from different cultures, we learn more about ourselves and the world around us.

Please give me examples of topic sentences with controlling ideas for a topic about my favorite movie

Whatever you want to talk about in your paragraph, your topic sentence will be a sort of summary or preview that will be supported by all the other sentences in your paragraph, so you have to decide what the paragraph is going to be about before you can write your topic sentences.

Let’s look at “Movies.” What do you want to say about movies?
Going to the movies is a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon? Movie special effects today are far superior to those of films just 10 years ago? Movies are a hugh waste of money? A “controlling” idea is an idea that makes a reader ask a question. Any time a topic sentence has a good “controlling” idea, the reader will have his or her curiosity raised.

 A topic sentence is the first sentence of a paragraph, that tells what the paragraph is going to be about.
