How is an exothermic reaction identified on a potential energy diagram?

Answered by answersmine AT 22/10/2019 – 02:30 AM

Energy diagrams are use to depict the energy changes that occur during a chemical reaction. There are two types of reaction based on the energy change, these are exothermic and endothermic reactions. In endothermic reactions energy are gained while in exothermic reactions energy are lost to the environment. To identify an exothermic reaction on a potential energy diagram, one has to compare the potential energy of the reactants and the products. If the potential energy of the product is less than that of the reactants, the reaction is exothermic.

A clipboard cost $2.23.It cost $0.58 more than a notebook.Lisa bought two clipboards and one notebook.She paid with a ten dollar bill.How much change does Lisa get?Use a tape diagram to show your thinking.

Lisa gets a change amount of fbox {begin bf $ 3.89\end{minispace}} when she pays a ten-dollar bill for two clipboards and a notebook.

Further explanation:

It is given that the cost of a clipboard is $ 2.23.

Also, it is known that the clipboard costs $text{ }0.58 more than a notebook so the cost of one notebook is calculated as,

fbox {begin\\begin{aligned}text{Cost of a notebook}&= 2.23-0.58\&=1.65end{aligned}end{minispace}}

Lisa bought two clipboards and one notebook then the total cost for items bought is obtained as the sum of cost of two clipboard and cost of one notebook.

fbox {begin\\begin{aligned}text{Total cost of two clipboard and one notebook}&= 2.23+2.23+1.65\&=6.11end{aligned}end{minispace}}

Lisa paid a ten dollar bill for the purchase of two clipboard and one notebook, so the total change she should get back is obtained as the difference of total cost of two clipboard and one notebook from the total paid price.

The tape diagram for the price paid for two clipboards and one notebook that Lisa bought is as shown in Figure 1 (attached at the end).

Therefore, the change that Lisa gets back is calculated as,

boxed{begin{aligned}text{Change that Lisa gets}&= 10-6.11\&=3.89end{aligned}}

Thus, the change amount that Lisa gets after she paid ten dollar for two clipboard and one notebook is fbox {begin bf $ 3.89\end{minispace}}.

Consider the stage of cellular respiration that is shown in the diagram. What is the net ATP production at this stage of cellular respiration? A)2 ATP B)4 ATP C)32 ATP D)36 ATP

Answer: A) 2ATP

Explanation:

The stage of cellular respiration shown in the image is the glycolysis. It is the first step of the cellular respiration that occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell. It is a sequence of reactions catalysed by various enzymes.  During glycolysis 6-carbon glucose is converted into two 3-carbon pyruvic acids. Glycolysis begins with activation of glucose. It is activated by using 2ATP and at the end of glycolysis 4ATPs are formed. Thus, net gain of ATP is 4 -2 = 2ATP.

Percentage change can be determined by dividing the change by the quantity of the base year. The base year here is year 1, so we use the value of $410,000 as base price.

Year 2:
Percentage change = (

$460,000-$410,000)/$410,000*100 = 12.2%

Year 3:
Percentage change =

($510,000-$410,000)/$410,000*100 = 24.4%

The percentage change increased doubly.

Answer:

Option C – BD=76 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : You are designing a diamond-shaped kite. you know that AD = 44.8 cm, DC = 72 cm, and AC = 84.8 cm.

To find : How long BD should it be?

Solution :

First we draw a rough diagram.

The given sides were AD = 44.8 cm, DC = 72 cm and AC = 84.8 cm.

According to properties of kite

Two disjoint pairs of consecutive sides are congruent.

So, AD=AB=44.8 cm

DC=BC=72 cm

The diagonals are perpendicular.

So, AC ⊥ BD

Let O be the point where diagonal intersect let let the partition be x and y.

AC= AO+OC

AC=  x+y=84.8 …….[1]

Perpendicular bisect the diagonal BD into equal parts let it be z.

BD=BO+OD

BD=z+z

Applying Pythagorean theorem in ΔAOD

where H=AD=44.8 ,P= AO=x , B=OD=z

H^2=P^2+B^2

(44.8)^2=x^2+z^2  ………[2]

Applying Pythagorean theorem in ΔCOD

where H=DC=72 ,P= OC=y , B=OD=z

H^2=P^2+B^2

(72)^2=y^2+z^2 …………[3]

Subtract [2] and [3]

(72)^2-(44.8)^2=y^2+z^2-x^2-z^2

Natalia began to draw a diagram to compare bases and acids. Which label should be written in the area marked X? conducts electric current produces OH– ions tastes sour reacts with carbonates

Answer:

1) Water has very high specific heat.

2) It expands when it freezes

3) ability to dissolve in ionic substances

4) Water molecules at the surface experience fewer hydrogen bonds than water molecules within the liquid.

Explanation:

1) Water molecules due to their high specific heat , undergo relatively less increase in temperature after absorbing heat. So they prevent their adjoining area to experience sharp increase in temperature.

2) Water is an example which expands on freezing. In it , large spaces are left between molecules when it cools. It happens because hydrogen bonds prevent any two molecules to come very close thereby  creating gaps. This gap is filled up when ice melts , which results in overall reduction in volume of water.

3) Uneven distribution of charge results in water molecules becoming polar in nature . A polar substance  can be dissolved in polar solvents only.

4) It is due to property of surface tension. Property  of surface tension results due to molecules of water near the surface experiencing a  net downward  force due to hydrogen bonds . It is due to fewer hydrogen bonds made by them.

The diagram shows the shape of a plot of land that Maria will use for her garden. She needs to know the length of each side so she can buy fencing. What is the length of line segment FJ? 18 feet 30 feet 36 feet 42 feet

The line which is parallel to the line KL passes through the point (8,-10) i.e, fbox{begin\ bf option 4\end{minisapce}}.

Further explanation:

From the given figure in the question it is observed that the line KL has a x-intercept and a y– intercept.

From the given figure it is observed that the line intersect the x-axis at the point (6,0) and intersects the y-axis at the point (0,4).

This implies that the x-intercept is (6,0) and the y-intercept is (0,4).

Consider the point (6,0) as (x_{1},y_{1}) and (0,4) as (x_{2},y_{2}).

The slope of a line which passes through the points (x_{1},y_{1}) and (x_{2},y_{2}) is calculated as follows:

fbox{begin\ math m=dfrac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}\end{minispace}}

Substitute the value of x_{1},x_{2},y_{1} and y_{2} in the above equation.

begin{aligned}m&=dfrac{4-0}{0-6}\&=dfrac{-2}{3}end{aligned}

Therefore, the slope of the line KL isdfrac{-2}{3}.

Since, the slope of line KL is dfrac{-2}{3} so, the slope of the line which is parallel to KL is also dfrac{-2}{3} because two parallel lines always have equal slope.

It is given that the line which is parallel to the line KL passes through the point M.

From the given figure it is observed that the coordinate for point M is (-4,-2).

The point slope form of a line is as follows:

fbox{begin\ math (y-y_{1})=m(x-x_{1})\end{minispace}}

To obtain the equation of the line which is parallel to the line KL substitute -4 for x_{1}, -2 for y_{1} and dfrac{-2}{3} for m in the above equation,.

begin{aligned}(y+2)&=dfrac{-2}{3}(x+4)\y+2&=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{8}{3}\y&=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}end{aligned}

Therefore, the equation of the line which is parallel to the line KL is as follows:

fbox{begin\ math y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}\end{minispace}}

Label the above equation as equation (1).

y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}                       (1)

Option1:

As per the option 1 the line y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} passes through the point (-10,0).

Substitute -10 for x in equation (1).

begin{aligned}y&=dfrac{-2times (-10)}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}\&=dfrac{20}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}\&=dfrac{6}{3}\&=2end{aligned}

As per the above calculation it is concluded that the line y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} passes through the point (-10,2).

Therefore, the option 1 is incorrect.

Option 2:

As per the option 2 the line y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} passes through the point (-6,2).

Substitute -6 for x in equation (1).

begin{aligned}y&=dfrac{-2times (-6)}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}\&=dfrac{12}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}\&=dfrac{-2}{3}\&=dfrac{-2}{3}end{aligned}

As per the above calculation it is concluded that the line y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} passes through the point (-6,frac{-2}{3}).

Therefore, option 2 is incorrect.

Option 3:

As per the option 3 the line y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} passes through the point (0,-6).

Substitute 0 for x in equation (1).

begin{aligned}y&=dfrac{-2times 0}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}\&=-dfrac{14}{3}end{aligned}

As per the above calculation it is concluded that the line y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} passes through the point (0,frac{-14}{3}).

Therefore, option 3 is incorrect.

Option 4:

As per the option 4 the line y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} passes through the point (8,-10).

Substitute 8 for x in equation (1).

begin{aligned}y&=dfrac{-2times 8}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}\&=-dfrac{16}{3}-dfrac{14}{3}\&=-dfrac{30}{3}\&=-10end{aligned}

As per the above calculation it is concluded that the line y=dfrac{-2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} passes through the point (8,-10).

Therefore, option 4 is correct.

Figure 1 (attached in the end) shows that the line KL and the line y=-dfrac{2x}{3}-dfrac{14}{3} are parallel.

Thus, the line which is parallel to the line KL passes through the point (8,-10) i.e, fbox{begin\ bf option 4\end{minispace}}.
