Tina can paint a room 1.5 times faster than Joey can. If they work together, they can paint a room in 6 hours. How long would it take the slower person working alone to paint the room?

[ad_1]

To answer this problem, let us define that:

x = amount of time Joey can paint a room in hours

1.5 x = amount of time Tina can paint a room in hours

Each person can complete 1 job in the specified amount of
time.

1 job / x hours = rate of Joey

1job / 1.5 x hours = rate of Tina

By adding the two, they can paint the room (1 job) in 6
hours. Therefore:

(1 / x) + (1 / 1.5 x) = 1 / 6

Multiplying whole equation with 6 (x) (1.5 x):

6 (1.5 x) + 6 x = x (1.5 x)

9 x + 6 x = 1.5 x^2

Dividing both sides with x:

15 = 1.5 x

x = 10 hours

Therefore the time it will take Tina, the slower person, is
1.5x = 15 hours

ANSWER: 15 hours

A ship traveled for 4 hours heading west and for 5 hours heading north. If the total distance traveled was 119 miles, and the ship traveled 5 miles per hour faster west, at what speed was the ship traveling west

[ad_1]

To answer this problem, we will use the formula of
hypotenuse:

c^2 = a^2 + b^2

Where,

c = total distance traveled / displacement = 119 miles

a = distance traveled north = 5 hours * x mph =  5 x

b = distance traveled west = 4 hours * (x + 5) mph = 4 (x
+ 5)

Substituting to the equation:

119^2 = (5 x)^2 + [4(x + 5)]^2

14,161 = 25 x^2 + 16 (x + 5)^2

14,161 = 25 x^2 + 16 (x^2 + 10 x + 25)

14,161 = 25 x^2 + 16 x^2 + 160 x + 400

0 = 41 x^2 + 160 x – 13,761

x =[ – b ± sqrt (b^2 – 4ac)]/ 2a

x = [- 160 ± sqrt (160^2 – 4 * 41 * (– 13,761))] / 2 * 41

x = – 1.95 ± 18.42

x = -20.37 , 16.47

Since speed cannot be negative, therefore x = 16.47

Therefore the speed of the ship travelling west is:

x +
5 = 21.47 mph         (ANSWER)

A loaded moving truck is traveling 30 mph faster than a freight train. in the time it takes the train to travel 135 miles, the truck travels 225 miles. find the speed of the truck.

A loaded moving truck is traveling 30 mph faster than a freight train…
(x-30)=speed of train
the time it takes the train to travel 135 miles, the truck travels 225 miles…
135/(x-30)=225/x
the you multiply on both sides the x values and get…
 135x=225x-6750
then you subtract 225x on both sides…
-90x=-6750
then you divide -90 on both sides…
x=75
the speed of the truck is 75mph

If the rate-determining step limits the speed of a reaction, which statement is correct? Even if one or more fast steps occur in a reaction, the overall reaction cannot proceed any faster than the slowest step. If the first step is slow and the second step is fast, then the second step should determine the rate of the overall reaction. Increasing the concentration of a molecule that occurs in a fast step after a slow step will increase the overall rate of the reaction. In a unimolecular reaction where A decomposes to B and C, the rate of the reaction will decrease if the concentration of A is increased.

A positive cahnge of enthalpy, ΔH rxn = + 55 kJ/mol, for the forward reaction means that the reaction is endothermic, i.e. the reactants absorb energy and the products are higher in energy.

Activation energy is the difference in the energy level of the reactants and the peak in the potential energy diagram (the energy of the transition state).

For an endothermic reaction, the products will be closer in energy to the transition state than what the reactans will be; so, the activation energy of the reversed reaction is lower than the activation energy of the forward reaction.

Activation energy of reverse and forward reactions is related by:

Activation energy of reverse rxn = Activation energy of forward rxn – ΔH rxn

=> Activiation energy of reverse rxn = 102 kJ/mol – 55 kJ/mol = 47 kJ/mol

Answer: 47 kJ/mol

The correct answer is Ethnic unrest in the Balkans and Ottoman Empire caused conflict between the alliances.

In 1912 and 1913, just before the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the start of World War I in 1914, the Balkan Wars would leave a trail of disaster as four Balkan states defeated the Ottoman Empire. This war was caused because first of all the Ottoman Empire could not deal with the diverse ethnicity of the people it governed, much less with its rising nationalism, also because the Empire failed to govern and to reform itself to govern more efficiently; the Balkans felt they had to take the issue into their own hands, and finally the four Balkan states had formed the Balkan league and were confident together they could be free of the Turks. As this war took place, the alliances began to test each other: who was willing to take the chance to defend its allies in these wars? Everyone was saving their millitary for their own enemies. No one wanted to use them on another one’s quarrel. Tension rose and this prepared the ground for the final straw.

Answer:

The correct match would be:

  1. Cerebrum – responsible for speech, emotion, and memory
  2. Cerebellum – responsible for muscle coordination and balance
  3. Brain stem – responsible for involuntary muscles like the heart

The brain can be divided into three main parts:

1. Cerebrum: It is the largest part of the brain. It can be divided into two halves termed as right and left hemisphere. It can also be divided into broad regions termed as lobes (frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobe).

The main functions of the cerebrum include control of voluntary muscles, interpret information received from sensory receptors (touch, vision, hearing, vision), reasoning, learning, emotions, and speech.

2. Cerebellum: It is located below the occipital lobe in the back of the brain. The main function of the cerebellum is the coordination and precision of voluntary actions and the maintenance of posture and balance of the body.

3. Brain stem: It connects the brain with the spinal cord. It consists of the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata. It helps in controlling and coordinating involuntary movements like the heart, lungs, swallowing, breathing, sneezing et cetera.

Read this quote from Zimmermann in The Code Book. In the past, if the government wanted to violate the privacy of ordinary citizens, it had to expend a certain amount of effort to intercept and steam open and read paper mail, or listen to and possibly transcribe spoken telephone conversations. This is analogous to catching fish with a hook and a line, one fish at a time. Fortunately for freedom and democracy, this kind of labor-intensive monitoring is not practical on a large scale. Today, electronic mail is gradually replacing conventional paper mail, and is soon to be the norm for everyone, not the novelty it is today. Unlike paper mail, e-mail messages are just too easy to intercept and scan for interesting keywords. This can be done easily, routinely, automatically, and undetectably on a grand scale. This is analogous to driftnet fishing—making a quantitative and qualitative Orwellian difference to the health of democracy. What is the purpose of the quote from Zimmermann? It explains how much faster e-mail travels than ordinary mail. It shows how easily digital mail can be monitored by outsiders. It states exactly how many people use e-mail instead of regular mail. It proves that e-mail is better for the health of democracy than regular mail.

Answer:  The correct option is (C). 10 = square root of the quantity of x minus 8 all squared plus y minus 9 all squared

Step-by-step explanation:  Given that the segment AB has point A located at (8, 9). The distance from A to B is 10 units.

We are to select the correct option that could be used to calculate the coordinates for point B.

Let, (x, y) be the co-ordinates of point B.

According to distance formula, the distance between two points (a, b) and (c, d) is given by

d=sqrt{(c-a)^2+(d-b)^2}.

Therefore, the distance between the points A(8, 9) and B(x, y) is given by

d=sqrt{(x-8)^2+(y-9)^2}.

Since, distance between A and B is 10 units, so

d = 10.

Therefore,

10=sqrt{(x-8)^2+(y-9)^2}.

Thus, the correct statement is

10 = square root of the quantity of x minus 8 all squared plus y minus 9 all squared.

Option (C) is correct.

The gravitational force Fg between two objects is given by the equation:

Fg=(G*m₁*m₂)/r₂, where G=6.67*10^-11 m³ kg⁻¹ s⁻² is the gravitational constant, m₁ and m₂ are the masses of the two bodies and r is the distance between those bodies.

Due to the gravitational attraction the pencil and the eraser will attract if we there is no friction on the surface.

m₁=10 g=0.01 kg is the mass of the pencil
m₂=20 g=0.02 kg is the mass of the eraser
r=2.5 cm = 0.025 m

First we calculate the Fg:

Fg={(6.67*10^-11)*0.01*0.02}/(0.025²)=2.1344*10^-11 N

To get the velocity v of the pencil:

v²=2as, where a is the acceleration of the pencil and s is the path. In our case s=r so we can write:

v²=2ar

a=Fg/m₁= 2.133*10^-9 m/s²

v²=2*(2.133*10^-9)*0.025=1.0665*10^-10

v=√(1.0665*10^-10)=1.0327*10^-5 m/s

We have the velocity and the acceleration, so we can calculate the time t with the equation:

t=v/a=(1.0327*10^-5)/(2.133*10^-9)=4841.6 s

1 hour has 3600 s so when we divide time t in seconds by 3600 we get time T in hours:

T=t/3600=4841.6/3600=1.3449 h.

So the time for the pencil and eraser to touch is T=1.3449 hours.

Also time T can be expressed like T= 1h and 20 mins and 41.64 s

Answer:

29.68%

Step-by-step explanation:

Allen’s monthly take-home pay is $3000

His monthly rent is $750

Now both his monthly take-home pay and his rent increase by $200

So, After increase Allen’s monthly take-home pay =$3000+$200= $3200

After increase His monthly rent = $750+200=$950

Now we are supposed to find what percentage of Allen’s take-home pay will be used to pay rent

So, percentage = frac{text{Rent after increase}}{text {Take- home pay after increase}} times 100

                          = frac{950}{3200}times 100

                          = frac{950}{32}

                          = 29.68%

Hence 29.68% of Allen’s take-home pay will be used to pay rent.

There are two systems in the human body that are responsible for the coordination between the functions of different systems to achieve the unity of the living organism’s body. These two systems are the nervous system and the endocrine system. The action of the nervous system is fast and takes a short time, while the action of the endocrine system is slow and takes a long time.

The functional unit of the nervous system is the nerve cell or the neuron. The neuron consists of a cell body and the axon. The cell body starts with the dendrites that receive the messages or the impulses from other neurons or from different sense organs or receptors. These impulses are then transmitted through the cell body. The cell body contains a nucleus and different organelles which help the nerve cell to perform its functions. The nerve impulse is then transmitted to the axon.

The axon is an extension from the cell body. There are some cells called Schwan cells that secrete a myelin sheath to insulate the axon from the surrounding medium. The insulated axons have more ability to conduct the impulses than non-insulated axons. The axon ends with the terminal arborizations. The terminal arborizations of a nerve cell connect to the dendrites of the next cell or to the afferent organ. The gaps between the dendrites and the terminal arborizations are called the synapses.

The nerve impulse is an electrochemical phenomenon i.e. an electrical phenomenon with a chemical nature. The membrane of the axon acts as a barrier between an outside positively charged medium and an inside negatively charged medium. This makes a potential difference of  -70mV. This state is called the resting potential. When the membrane is subjected to a stimulus, the positive charges enter to inside and the negative charges exit to the outside. The potential difference now becomes +40mV. This state is called the depolarization state. The point of stimulation acts as a new stimulus for the next point and so on. The membrane sooner gains its permeability again and the positive charges return to the outside and the negative charges to inside. This state is called repolarization.

The nerve impulse reaches the synapse. There are some neurotransmitters that are excited by the nerve impulse coming and carry the message across the membrane. Some receptors receive theses neurotransmitters on the dendrites of the next neuron. These receptors act as a stimulus for the new cell.

The correct answer of this question is : C i.e Gravitational < Weak nuclear force < Electromagnetic force < Strong nuclear force.

EXPLANATION:

There are four fundamental forces in nature which are known as gravitational force, weak nuclear force, electromagnetic force and strong nuclear force.

Out of these four fundamental forces, the gravitational force is the weakest forces in nature,but has infinite range.

Weak nuclear force is produced due to W/Z bosons. Hence, it is stronger than gravitational force but weaker as compared to electromagnetic and strong nuclear force. It is a short range force.

Electromagnetic force is the third one which is weaker as compared to strong nuclear force but has infinite range.

Strong nuclear force is a short range, spin dependent strong attractive force that arises between nucleons due to exchange of mesons.

sources.

Primary sources allow researchers to get as close as possible to original ideas, events, and empirical research as possible. Such sources may include creative works, first hand or contemporary accounts of events, and the publication of the results of empirical observations or research. We list sources for historical primary documents.

Secondary sources analyze, review, or summarize information in primary resources or other secondary resources. Even sources presenting facts or descriptions about events are secondary unless they are based on direct participation or observation. Moreover, secondary sources often rely on other secondary sources and standard disciplinary methods to reach results, and they provide the principle sources of analysis about primary sources.

Tertiary sources provide overviews of topics by synthesizing information gathered from other resources. Tertiary resources often provide data in a convenient form or provide information with context by which to interpret it.

The distinctions between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources can be ambiguous. An individual document may be a primary source in one context and a secondary source in another. Encyclopedias are typically considered tertiary sources, but a study of how encyclopedias have changed on the Internet would use them as primary sources. Time is a defining element.

Which term describes the economic status when prices are rising faster than wages? A.Recovery B.Stagflation C.Depression D.Hyperflation

[ad_1]

There are three qualities inherent in all successful entrepreneurs

1) Adaptable

Being adaptable is critical. If you are going to be an entrepreneur, the only thing that will be constant is change. You will have to adapt or see your enterprise swallowed up by a rising tide of change. A close second to adaptability is persistence.

2. Persistence

To succeed, you will have to be willing to persist through difficult times. Nothing can take the place of persistence and you can’t succeed without it.

In addition to the willingness to persist, you will need the financial wherewithal to persist. You’ll need a cash reserve that will see you through the lean times. When considering the launch of a business assume that everything will take twice as long and cost twice as much as you expect. If you can’t afford this, delay the launch of your enterprise. Conservatism in the planning stage is often a lifesaver down the road.

3. Work ethic

The third necessary skill is the ability and the willingness to work very, very hard. Running a small business is difficult. Your days will be much longer than eight hours. If your week starts on Monday, you’ll pass 40 hours on Thursday, but you won’t slow down. You’ll be on call 24/7. Success as an entrepreneur requires hard, hard work.

Running a small business is filled with challenges, but if you are adaptable, have the willingness and the wherewithal to persist, and are willing to work very hard, you will greatly improve your odds of success. Adaptability, persistence and hard work, these are the keys to success in small business, but they are three important attributes no matter what your endeavor.

William cycles at a speed of 15 miles per hour. He cycles 12 miles from home to school. If he increases his cycling speed by 5 miles per hour, how mucg faster will he reach his school?

[ad_1]

What it is asking for is a distance over time in HOURS.
It isn’t specific about the distance units so, we can assume km is OKAY to use!

Now we need to convert 190 days to hours. Let’s set up some conversion factors.

1 Day = 24 Hours

 frac{190 days}{1} *  frac{24 hours}{1 day}

I recommend setting up conversions like the way I did above. To do so simply make the units cancel out. Similar to how 3/3 cancel out, units also cancel out in the same way. So when you are trying to figure out whether or not you divide or multiply by the conversion factor simply use this method. Say we had 190 hours, the hours unit would need to be on the bottom, and the days on top. It’d be 1/24, thus you would divide by 24.

 frac{190 days}{1} * frac{24 hours}{1 day} = 4560 hours.

Now what it is asking for his a rate of distance per hour. This rate is also called speed. Remember in the statement it said how far per hour. Meaning when dividing the units should look like this:  frac{km}{hour}

 frac{2557km}{4560hour} = 0.5607 frac{km}{hour}

The answer is:
0.5607 frac{km}{hour}

Answer:  Media’s role as watchdog

Details:

“Watergate” refers to efforts by persons working for President Nixon’s reelection campaign to spy on their opponents at Democratic party headquarters, and subsequent efforts to cover up those crimes.

The first break-in attempt by burglars working on Nixon’s behalf occurred  in May, 1972, as persons connected to the Nixon reelection campaign broke into the Democratic National Committee office in the Watergate complex of buildings in Washington, DC.  They were planting wire-taps on the Democrats’ phone lines, and also stole copies of documents.  When the wire-taps didn’t work properly, they broke in again (in June) to try to fix the surveillance devices, but they were caught.

An insider at the FBI who remained anonymous at the time, known only as “Deep Throat,” began to give information concerning Watergate to reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post.   Persistent investigative reporting by Woodward and Bernstein brought the scandal to light and forced Congressional hearings.   (Note:  Years later it was revealed that Deep Throat was Mark Felt, who at the time was Associate Director of the FBI.)

Nixon’s role in Watergate was especially in his efforts and those of members of his staff to cover up what had happened.  Ultimately, the Watergate affair brought down the Nixon presidency.  He resigned in order to avoid impeachment.  And the whole affair made Americans more distrusting of government.
