Why was Catherine the Great’s acquisition of a warm-water port so important for Russia? Select all that apply. It demonstrated Russia’s rising power. It slowed Western influence on Russia. It limited Ottoman Turkish expansion. It fostered a military alliance with Sweden. It improved the ability to conduct trade.

[ad_1]

Industrialization led to rising imperialism because
1) show of power: As one makes new technology, they would either want to test it out or show the other nations that what they produce is ground-breaking and the best. Usually if it is military technology, you would want to test it out, and with the use of “show of force”, can have people groups submit to your country.
2) Better technology: As technology advances, it usually makes something easier. In the case of imperialism, better military advances meant that they could (once again) have other people submit to you
3) Better transportation: This meant that you could take multiple countries at once, and can prove that you’re country is great by having supplies shipped over long distances to keep your troops up. If in need of more troops, you could send more.

Which amendment would strict constructionists look to in order to justify a limited interpretation of the constitution?

[ad_1]

The First Amendment to the Constitution says: Congress should make no law regarding a foundation of religion, or disallowing the free exercise thereof, or shortening the right to speak freely, or of the press; or the privilege of the general population serenely to amass, and to request of the Government for a review of grievances.

The First Amendment secures a few fundamental opportunities in the United States including flexibility of religion, the right to speak freely, the flexibility of the press, the privilege to gather, and the privilege to appeal to the administration. It was a piece of the Bill of Rights that was included in the Constitution December 15, 1791.

The Reformation actually started after Columbus’s landing in North America.

Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494 was forced on Spain and Portugal by the Pope. The Pope basically said that all lands in the New World belonged to Spain and all new non-Christian lands in the Eastern Hemisphere belong to Portugal. No other Catholic countries can do anything in those areas without the approval of the owner.

The pope basically drew two lines on the globe setting the border. The western line started at the north pole cut half way through Greenland and ended at the south pole. The new world was everything to the west. Problem is that it ran through a chunk of Brazil which is why Brazil is an ex-Portuguese colony.

The Eastern line starts at the North Pole runs through siberia, through the pacific just west of Japan, and cuts Australia in half. Of course, Australia hadn’t been discovered yet. Everything to the the east of this line is the new world.

Obviously, this treaty didn’t hold up well, but the reformation gave the protestant countries an excuse to explore the new world since they didn’t have to take orders from the Pope. Even so, France, a catholic country, ignored it too.

Really, the only country that was effected by the reformation in the exploration of the Americas was England. All the other countries, changed their religion once and then went to war with the nearest catholic country. Sweden became Lutheran and stayed that way. The Dutch Republic became Calvinists and stayed that way.

England kept switching. First it was Catholic. Then, Henry VIII made it protestant. Then, Henry’s daughter Mary I made it catholic again. Henry’s other daughter Elizabeth I (with the two hit movies) made it Protestant again.

Years latter, Oliver Cromwell over through the monarchy, executed the King Charles I, and established a Protestant fundamentalist religious military dictatorship. He outlawed drinking, smoking, gambling, theater, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and anything generally fun. He would have made Saudi Arabia proud. Basically, all you could do is work, pray, and die. Sex was allowed for creating children, but you couldn’t enjoy it.

When Cromwell died, the people of England said enough was enough and brought back the King. Charles II kicked out the fundamentalists and brought back drinking, smoking, gambling, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and having fun during sex. Incidentally, those were also all his hobbies.

This brings us to the famous Pilgrims. They were part of Cromwell’s crowd. They kept agitating a return to the no-fun policy. They annoyed everybody. They weren’t persecuted for practicing their religion, they were persecuted because they kept trying to force their religion on everyone else. Sort of like Southern Baptists.

Charles II was the most easy going monarch in British history. Do realize how annoying you have to be to get him to throw you out.

Charles’s brother James II was obsessed with turning Great Britain catholic again. After four years of trying, they kicked him and his followers out.

Someone who has good work ethics would be able to prioritize her tasks based on deadline, importance, and other characteristics that she or he deems best.

Good work ethics have no direct relation to a person’s tendency to get stressed, but an inability to meet deadlines and arriving late to the workplace would not be something a person with good work ethics do.

The idea that supports the claim that “Smaller offices are more honest than big ones” is the one mirroring offices to street crime.

Quote: ‘There is far less street crime per capita in rural areas than in cities, in large part because a rural criminal is more likely to be known (and therefore caught). Also, a smaller community tends to exert greater social incentives against crime, the main one being shame.’

This means that in smaller places people tend to know everyone who happens to be around, as well as the people to whom this person may be related. This situation makes it easier for people to identify a possible criminal and therefore caught them, using shame as a weapon to punish them. Keeping up with the analogy, a person found guilty of a crime may be kicked out of a small town the same way they would be fired from a small office, which leads to the conclussion that smaller (places) offices remain more honest than big ones, since all criminals are dismissed.

In autobiographies, narrators tell the story of their own lives. From which point of view would you expect an autobiography to be written? first person third person limited third person omniscient

[ad_1]

Answer:

The expected point of view in autobiographies is the following one:

First person.

Explanation:

Since autobiographies are books in which people narrate the events in their own lives, it is only natural that the point of view of choice will be first person, that is, with the prevalence of the pronoun “I”. Plus, a rather personal tone is used, as in this excerpt from “My Life”, by Bill Clinton, former President of the USA:

“At the end of my presidency, I picked a few special places to say goodbye and thanks to the American people. One of them was Chicago, where Hillary was born; where I all but clinched the Democratic nomination on St. Patrick’s Day 1992; where many of my most ardent supporters live and many of my most important domestic initiatives in crime, welfare, and education were proved effective; and, of course, where my parents went to live after the war. I used to joke with Hillary that if my father hadn’t lost his life on that rainy Missouri highway, I would have grown up a few miles from her and we probably never would have met.”

Is the following statement true or false? The Magna Carta was a document signed by King John of England in 1215 which limited the power of the king, promised the right to a fair trial, and backed the idea of no taxation without representation.

[ad_1]

Answer:  Schlesinger described it as IMPERIAL PRESIDENCY.

Detail:

Arthur Schlesinger’s 1973 book, The Imperial Presidency, detailed how wartime situations tended to allow presidents to accrue to themselves larger powers than granted by the US Constitution.  President Johnson’s actions in obtaining the Tonkin Gulf Resolution from Congress in 1964 is an example, giving the President extremely wide leeway in use of the military, which escalated US involvement in Vietnam.  But that’s only one example, and Schlesinger’s argument looked at how presidential powers, particularly in foreign affairs, tended to be increased by all presidents in wartime.

In an article that Schlesinger wrote during the Reagan presidency, he quoted a Civil War era example:

  • “We elect a king every four years,” Secretary of State William H. Seward told a London Times correspondent during the Civil War, “and give him absolute power within certain limits, which after all he can interpret for himself.”

In that same article, Schlesinger noted:  “Presidents Truman, Johnson, Nixon, and Reagan thereafter assumed that the power to send troops into combat is an inherent right of the presidency and does not require congressional authorization.”

Citation:  “The Imperial Temptation,” by Arthur Schlesinger, The New Republic, March 14, 1987.

Answer:

a. A letter explaining an earlier event

Explanation:

In this letter Lincoln describes how his difficulties and attempts to maintain the constitution, keep government active and keep the nation together. He describes, in his text, various events that took place, such as his oath to rule, how he prohibited military embezzlement, how he did not think it necessary to arm black people, among other situations.

A part of the letter that exemplifies well what I quoted above is the excerpt: ”  When, early in the war, General Fremont attempted military emancipation, I forbade it, because I did not then think it an indispensable necessity. When, a little later, General Cameron, then Secretary of War, suggested the arming of the blacks, I objected, because I did not yet think it an indispensable necessity. When, still later, General Hunter attempted military emancipation, I forbade it, because I did not yet think the indispensable necessity had come. When, in March and May and July, 1862, I made earnest and successive appeals to the Border States to favor compensated emancipation, I believed the indispensable necessity for military emancipation and arming the blacks would come, unless averted by that measure. They declined the proposition; and I was, in my best judgment, driven to the alternative of either surrendering the Union, and with it the Constitution, or of laying strong hand upon the colored element. I chose the latter. In choosing it, I hoped for greater gain than loss; but of this I was not entirely confident…”

What is the cycling of nutrients between the ground and living organisms? A) When nutrients from the ground are taken by living organism and returned when those organisms die and decompose. B) When fertilizer is added to the soil by humans. C) When planted deplete the soil of all its nutrients and can no longer grow there. D) When limited numbers of living organisms are available to weather rock and contribute organic matter.

[ad_1]

Answer:

The correct answer will be option-C.

Explanation:

The living organism uses energy to survive through performing metabolic reactions. The metabolism is the characteristic feature of living organisms which enables the organism to survive.

Organism performs the chemical reactions which could help make the energy molecules in the cell and help store energy in the energy molecule like Adenosine triphosphate or ATP.

The energy is stored in the high energy bonds between two phosphate groups which get utilized by the organism after a breakdown which releases a high amount of energy.

Thus, Option-C is the correct answer.
