The correct answer is – Andes Mountains.

The Andes Mountain Range is a result of a oceanic-continental convergence. This mountain range stretches alongside the western coast of the South American continent, in close proximity of the convergent boundary between the South American tectonic plate, which is continental one, and the Nazca tectonic plate, which is oceanic one.

The Nazca plate is subducting beneath the South American plate, and it managed to lift up the land in close proximity to the boundary. As the land was lifting up more and more, over time a mountain range was formed, the biggest and dominant one in South America, the Andean Mountain Range.

[ad_1]

The Reformation actually started after Columbus’s landing in North America.

Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494 was forced on Spain and Portugal by the Pope. The Pope basically said that all lands in the New World belonged to Spain and all new non-Christian lands in the Eastern Hemisphere belong to Portugal. No other Catholic countries can do anything in those areas without the approval of the owner.

The pope basically drew two lines on the globe setting the border. The western line started at the north pole cut half way through Greenland and ended at the south pole. The new world was everything to the west. Problem is that it ran through a chunk of Brazil which is why Brazil is an ex-Portuguese colony.

The Eastern line starts at the North Pole runs through siberia, through the pacific just west of Japan, and cuts Australia in half. Of course, Australia hadn’t been discovered yet. Everything to the the east of this line is the new world.

Obviously, this treaty didn’t hold up well, but the reformation gave the protestant countries an excuse to explore the new world since they didn’t have to take orders from the Pope. Even so, France, a catholic country, ignored it too.

Really, the only country that was effected by the reformation in the exploration of the Americas was England. All the other countries, changed their religion once and then went to war with the nearest catholic country. Sweden became Lutheran and stayed that way. The Dutch Republic became Calvinists and stayed that way.

England kept switching. First it was Catholic. Then, Henry VIII made it protestant. Then, Henry’s daughter Mary I made it catholic again. Henry’s other daughter Elizabeth I (with the two hit movies) made it Protestant again.

Years latter, Oliver Cromwell over through the monarchy, executed the King Charles I, and established a Protestant fundamentalist religious military dictatorship. He outlawed drinking, smoking, gambling, theater, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and anything generally fun. He would have made Saudi Arabia proud. Basically, all you could do is work, pray, and die. Sex was allowed for creating children, but you couldn’t enjoy it.

When Cromwell died, the people of England said enough was enough and brought back the King. Charles II kicked out the fundamentalists and brought back drinking, smoking, gambling, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and having fun during sex. Incidentally, those were also all his hobbies.

This brings us to the famous Pilgrims. They were part of Cromwell’s crowd. They kept agitating a return to the no-fun policy. They annoyed everybody. They weren’t persecuted for practicing their religion, they were persecuted because they kept trying to force their religion on everyone else. Sort of like Southern Baptists.

Charles II was the most easy going monarch in British history. Do realize how annoying you have to be to get him to throw you out.

Charles’s brother James II was obsessed with turning Great Britain catholic again. After four years of trying, they kicked him and his followers out.

In Spanish, the preterite tense (el pretérito) is used to describe actions completed at a point in the past. So the Spanish preterite is not used to describe regular or continuous actions in the past with no specific beginning or end. In that case, we use the imperfect. Therefore, we use the preterite to talk about completed actions in the past. So, it is used to talk about beginnings and ends, things that occurred on specific dates or days, at specific times or during specific time periods, and events in a sequence. There are two forms in this verbal tense, namely: Regular Imperfect Forms and Irregular Imperfect Forms.

On the other hand, the imperfect tense (el imperfecto) is used to describe past habitual actions or to talk about what someone was doing when they were interrupted by something else. In general, the imperfect is used to talk about past actions, conditions, or events that occurred regularly or frequently or that were in progress in a moment in the past. It is also used to tell time, talk about dates, give a person’s age, and describe features, conditions, and feelings in the past. As in the preterite tense, there are two forms in this verbal tense, namely: Regular Imperfect Forms and Irregular Imperfect Forms.

The regular verb forms for both the preterite and the imperfect are given in three ways, that is, for ar, er and ir endings. So the conjugation will depend on the pronoun of the sentence and the verb ending. On the other hand, the irregular verb forms don’t have a defined structure.

Civics One U.S. dollar was worth 16 Mexican pesos in 2009, but in 2011 the U.S. dollar was worth 14 Mexican pesos. What is a likely result of this change in the U.S. dollar’s exchange value? It will cost more for Mexicans to vacation in the United States in 2011. Americans will pay less for goods produced in Mexico in 2011. Americans will pay more for goods produced in Mexico in 2011. It will cost less for Americans to vacation in Mexico in 2011.

[ad_1]

Answer:

Americans will pay more for goods produced in Mexico in 2011.

Explanation:

This is a situation of devaluation of the dollar in relation to the Mexican peso. If in 2009 the dollar was worth 16 pesos, but in 2011 it is 14, it means that the purchasing power of the dollar in relation to the Mexican peso has decreased, although it is still high.

In that case, for an American to buy products produced in Mexico in 2011, he or she will spend a little more dollars than he or she would spend in 2009. This is common, since the currencies fluctuate according to the financial market . Thus, the dollar can be valued or devalued, as happened in this example.

If, for example, in 2015 the dollar will buy 20 pesos, it will mean that the dollar appreciated in relation to the peso, increasing the purchasing power of Americans for Mexican products.

Poland Hungary Bulgaria

In the aftermath of World War II, the influence of the Soviet Union extended through the countries that were invaded by fascists in the Eastern Front, such as Poland, Hungary, and Bulgaria.

Poland

In January 1947, elections were held, resulting in the communist Republic of Poland. Previously elections were intervened so the communist candidates could turn victorious, and the members of communist resistance continued to resist in the territories near to Ucrain but fierce soviets intervention turned to mass arrest where all kinds of executions, deportations, and imprisonment took place.

What did Germany promise Mexico in return for Mexican aid during WW1?

[ad_1]

Answer:

Vengeance

Explanation:

After the great-war devastated Europe, decimated Europe’s male population and killed a large number of civilians. Because of that many countries such as Britain blamed Germany for the war and wanted vengeance, Lloyd George promised to make Germany pay. Germany was demanded to pay huge sums of reparations.

On the other side, Woodrow Wilson believed that Germany should be punished but it should not be so drastic because Europe needed reconciliation rather than revenge.

In the end, Germany had 13% of its territory stripped, border territories of Alsace and Lorraine returned to France, lost all its colonies, the size of army and navy was cut, airforce and submarines were forbidden and reparations were fixed at 6,000 million £

In the 1980’s (and still today to some extent) the drug cartels the boss in Columbia. For example, the Cali Cartel was able to bribe law enforcement officials in Columbia to avoid prosecution. They ran wiretaps on the government to know when they were getting close to being caught, which is incredibly impressive since it’s hard for other governments to wiretap the law enforcement divisions of another country. The cartel had zero fear of being prosecuted in a Columbian court because it was very likely that they had not only bribed the judge- but also the official that selects the judge for cases. The Cali Cartel was far from the only drug cartel in Columbia that existed with the aforementioned capabilities; though it certainly was the most prolific.

Basically, the Columbian government had lost control of the situation and no longer possessed the ability to contain any of the cartel’s criminal activity. Luckily for the citizens of Columbia, the government was able to recognise/admit this, which was the main (and pretty much only) rationale for the Columbian government setting up the extradition treaty that they did with the US.
The Treaty was actually very successful and is widely considered to be the worst threat to face the cartels at the time. Some of the cartels did attempt to influence the trials that went on in the US, but very few had any success, and the ones that did weren’t able to do enough to sway verdicts. Even though the government could extradite any Columbian citizen that it suspected of drug trafficking, meaning that they didn’t require conclusive evidence (just circumstantial evidence), almost all of the trials that took place in the US ended in a prosecution of some sort.

The treaty reached peak success during the time that it was supported by the then Columbian Justice Minister Rodrigo Lara Bonilla, and during this period of time, the treaty forced all of the major cartel drug lords into hiding out of Columbia.

Hope that answers your question, it’s a little bit longer than what most people are looking for on this site, but you have to know a fair amount about the situation to really understand IMO. Cheers!
