## The side of a square measures (3x − 6) units. Part A: What is the expression that represents the area of the square? Show your work to receive full credit. (4 points) Part B: What are the degree and classification of the expression obtained in Part A? (3 points) Part C: How does Part A demonstrate the closure property for polynomials? (3 points)

A. The area of a square is given as:

A = s^2

Where s is a measure of a side of a square. s = (2 x – 5) therefore,

A = (2 x – 5)^2

Expanding,

A = 4 x^2 – 20 x + 25

B. The degree of a polynomial is the highest exponent of the variable x, in this case 2. Therefore the expression obtained in part A is of 2nd degree.

Furthermore, polynomials are classified according to the number of terms in the expression. There are 3 terms in the expression therefore it is classified as a trinomial.

C. The closure property demonstrates that during multiplication or division, the coefficients and power of the variables are affected while during multiplication or division, only the coefficients are affected while the power remain the same.

## It is this fate, I solemnly assure you, that I dread for you, when the time comes that you make your reckoning, and realize that there is no longer anything that can be done. May you never find yourselves, men of Athens, in such a position! Yet in any case, it were better to die ten thousand deaths, than to do anything out of servility towards Philip [or to sacrifice any of those who speak for your good]. A noble recompense did the people in Oreus receive, for entrusting themselves to Philip’s friends, and thrusting Euphraeus aside! And a noble recompense the democracy of Eretria, for driving away your envoys, and surrendering to Cleitarchus! They are slaves, scourged and butchered! A noble clemency did he show to the Olynthians, who elected Lasthenes to command the cavalry, and banished Apollonides! It is folly, and it is cowardice, to cherish hopes like these, to give way to evil counsels, to refuse to do anything that you should do, to listen to the advocates of the enemy’s cause, and to fancy that you dwell in so great a city that, whatever happens, you will not suffer any harm.

## Read the following dialogue: Mark: I deserve a raise! Boss: Why do you deserve a raise? Mark: Both Rachel and Soledad make three dollars more an hour than I do, so I should make the same as they do. Boss: Both Rachel and Soledad have worked here longer than you and always receive top evaluations. Mark: Well, then I deserve a raise because I have a wife and two children at home, one of whom has a very expensive medical condition. Boss: No. Unfortunately, Mark's argument lacks proof that he deserves a raise. In fact, Mark is often late and rarely completes his work on time. But Mark still really needs a raise. Mark just learned that his boss loves the Boston Red Sox and hates the New York Yankees. How can Mark use this knowledge and alter his argument to convince his boss to give him a raise?

Explanation:

One logical fallacy that Mark makes to hi boss is that He has two children at home and one of the children is suffering from serious medical conditions where Mark has to spend more money on his treatment. This is one wrong move in support of his argument to raise his salary.

Moreover Mark arguments to provide a raise is not persuasive  because his explanation does not have any logical reason as to why he deserves a raise. Merely because his colleagues, Rachel and Soledad earns more than Mark does not imply that Mark should also be paid equal or given a raise.

## Which two items, found in the late 1800’s, caused South Africa to receive a wave of immigrants?

1- The correct answer is B, as one result of the Great Society was that the lives of many underprivileged Americans improved.

The Great Society was a set of US national reform programs announced by President Lyndon B. Johnson for the first time in a speech at Ohio University on May 7, 1964 and more fully illustrated on May 22, 1964 at the University of Michigan. These reform programs were subsequently presented to the Congress of the United States and largely approved during the 1960s, thanks to the consent of its supporters of the Democratic Party.

Two main goals of social reforms were the elimination of poverty and racial injustice. During this period new large spending programs were launched in the fields of education, medical care, urban problems and transport. Johnson’s “Great Society” was linked, in its objectives and policies, to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal program.

Some proposals of the Great Society resumed initiatives contained in the New Frontier program, interrupted by the tragic death of President John F. Kennedy. Johnson’s success in promoting and endorsing his reforms depended on his considerable congressional political influence, his persuasion, and the favorable historical circumstances resulting from the 1964 presidential elections, which allowed the Democratic Party to dominate Congress and to elect the House of Representatives with the largest number of exponents of the liberal current since 1938.

The evolution of the Vietnam war and the massive involvement of the American military machine in the conflict, however, partly undermined the success of the “Great Society” program. Growing, huge expenditures for the continuation of the war made more difficult to finance the reform programs. Representatives of the Democratic Party against the war in Vietnam complained that military spending decisively stifled the Great Society program. On the whole, however, despite growing political and economic difficulties, which forced the administration to eliminate or reduce the financing of some projects, President Johnson managed to activate a series of programs of great importance, including Medicare, Medicaid, the Older Americans Act and the federal education funding, which are still active.

2- The correct answer is C, as the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was necessary because the previous existing American immigration policies were discriminatory.

On October 3, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the law into effect, saying: “The [old] system violates the basic principle of American democracy, the principle according to which the valuation and reward of each man should be established on the basis of his merits as a man. It has been anti-American in the highest sense, because it has been unfaithful to the faith that led thousands to these shores, even before we were a country. ”

## The waitress and hostess at a restaurant share the tips at the end of every shift. Between the two of them, they earn an average of \$75 in tips. The waitress take \$55 and the hostess takes \$20. If they continue to earn money at this rate, how much will the waitress receive if they earn \$300 at the end of their next shift?

3 hours.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the time taken by shoe repairman to repair one pair.

We have been given that his assistant, who takes twice as long to repair a pair of shoes. So time taken by his assistant to repair one pair of shoes would be 2x.

The number of pair of shoes repaired by repairman in one hour would be .

The number of pair of shoes repaired by assistant in one hour would be .

We have been given that together they can fix 16 pairs of shoes in an eight-hour day. We can represent this information in an equation as:

Let us have a common denominator.

Upon cross multiplying our equation we will get,

Therefore, it take 3 hours for the repairman to fix one pair of shoes by himself.

## Studies continue to prove that if a girl stays in school she will strengthen her family, community, and nation. A long list of benefits of educating a girl in a developing country compiled by the World Health Organization includes later marriages, smaller families, better hygiene, greatly increased likelihood that further children will receive education, and my favorite – greater confidence. A bicycle is a simple, sustainable tool that eases long travel distances and encourages girls to stay in school. —Foreword to Wheels of Change, Leah Missbach Day What is the central idea of this passage from the foreword?

Here are a few pointers; hope this is useful)

Ovation-by definition- is show of appreciation from an audience, for a person’s accomplishments or flaw.

“Everyone deserves a standing ovation because we all overcometh the world.”

A person’s accomplishment could be how they made a positive change in this world, strong leadership- that makes them a effective leader or simply helping others. A person’s flaw- mistakes in life, sin or even guilt should also be considered an appreciation- an ovation for representing mankind’s flaw and that humanity makes mistakes, fulfilling at least one deadly sin such as greed, lust, selfishness etc.

Thus, regardless of a person’s achievement or flaw- a person deserves an applause for, not the least, living in this society and this world that we are all living together and dying together.

That was just the introduction.. the best part is yet to come.. now it’s your turn!!

Shakespeare’s famous line “All the World’s a stage. That agrees with your line: “Everybody deserves a standing ovation…”

Shakespeare explains that men and women are like players: they live, and die, some being celebrated and some forever living in solitude till their death. Shakespeare states the world is a “stage” which symbolizes that mankind is in its peak. The world is changing everyday: little by little and humanity is falling behind.
Due to our world turning into machinery: factories, an automotive future: where humans only job to live (entrance) and to die (exit) the famous humans remembered and the flawed not recalled.

This is according to Shakespeare’s imagery.

I don’t know what grade your in, but I think simplifying Shakespeare’s word of mouth in your essay would be handy and useful as it has strong references of your quote, and agrees strongly in your essay.

Hope this helps 🙂

## According to vygotsky, if one child receives assistance he/she may improve substantially more than another child who does not receive help. the assistance or structuring provided by others is termed

The answer to the question: Although she does not have a background in law, she hopes to land the job because of the:___, would be: Screening effect.

Explanation:

The screening effect is a theory that is used by companies and recruiters in order to effectively select and screen the best candidates for a specific position, even if these candidates may not fulfill all the requirements for that position. What the theory does is propose that candidates who have completed a college degree show their capacities, even if these are not specifically related to an expected topic, by simply achieving this goal, and are therefore worthy to be taken into account for selection. In the case of Tracy, she has not just fulfilled the part of the theory of finishing her degree, but she has overachieved by obtaining the best degrees in topics that are related to a job as a legal assistant. The screening effect will allow recruiters to see Tracy´s records and take her into account, even if she has never had any legal experience, due to her achievements in related topics.

## In order to process information from the external world, _____ receive input from the body and transfer the information to the brain through the spinal cord. motor neurons mirror neurons interneurons sensory neurons

There are two systems in the human body that are responsible for the coordination between the functions of different systems to achieve the unity of the living organism’s body. These two systems are the nervous system and the endocrine system. The action of the nervous system is fast and takes a short time, while the action of the endocrine system is slow and takes a long time.

The functional unit of the nervous system is the nerve cell or the neuron. The neuron consists of a cell body and the axon. The cell body starts with the dendrites that receive the messages or the impulses from other neurons or from different sense organs or receptors. These impulses are then transmitted through the cell body. The cell body contains a nucleus and different organelles which help the nerve cell to perform its functions. The nerve impulse is then transmitted to the axon.

The axon is an extension from the cell body. There are some cells called Schwan cells that secrete a myelin sheath to insulate the axon from the surrounding medium. The insulated axons have more ability to conduct the impulses than non-insulated axons. The axon ends with the terminal arborizations. The terminal arborizations of a nerve cell connect to the dendrites of the next cell or to the afferent organ. The gaps between the dendrites and the terminal arborizations are called the synapses.

The nerve impulse is an electrochemical phenomenon i.e. an electrical phenomenon with a chemical nature. The membrane of the axon acts as a barrier between an outside positively charged medium and an inside negatively charged medium. This makes a potential difference of  -70mV. This state is called the resting potential. When the membrane is subjected to a stimulus, the positive charges enter to inside and the negative charges exit to the outside. The potential difference now becomes +40mV. This state is called the depolarization state. The point of stimulation acts as a new stimulus for the next point and so on. The membrane sooner gains its permeability again and the positive charges return to the outside and the negative charges to inside. This state is called repolarization.

The nerve impulse reaches the synapse. There are some neurotransmitters that are excited by the nerve impulse coming and carry the message across the membrane. Some receptors receive theses neurotransmitters on the dendrites of the next neuron. These receptors act as a stimulus for the new cell.

## Calculate the simple interest you would receive in one year on a savings account that earns 5% annual interest. your beginning balance is \$255.19.

The Contribution Margin per unit (CM) can be calculated
from the difference of Selling Price per unit (SP) and Total Expenses per unit
(TE).

First, let’s calculate the value of SP:

SP = Sales / Units sold

SP = \$1,043,400 / 22,200 units sold

SP = \$47

Second, calculate all expenses:

Direct materials per unit = \$234,948 / 27,970 units
manufactured = \$8.4

Direct labor per unit = \$131,459 / 27,970 units
manufactured = \$4.7

Variable manufacturing overhead per unit = \$240,542 / 27,970
units manufactured = \$8.6

Variable selling expenses per unit = \$113,220 / 22,200
units sold = \$5.1

TE = \$26.8

Therefore the CM is:

CM = SP – TE

CM = \$47 – \$26.8

CM = \$20.2 per unit
