Read the selection below from the poem “The King Sends Three Cats to Guinevere” by Marjorie Allen Seiffert and answer the question that follows. I send you three grey cats with gifts— (For uniformity of metaphor, Since Bacchus, Satan, and the Hangman Are not contemporaneous in my mythology) I send you three grey cats with gifts, Queen Guinevere, To warn you, sleekly, silently To pay the forfeit. Source: Seiffert, Marjorie Allen. “The King Sends Three Cats to Guinevere.” BlackCatPoems.com. Black Cat Poems, n.d. Web. 7 July 2011. What is the author’s purpose in the above passage, and how does she achieve it through her organization and choice of details?

[ad_1]

The poem has been written according to King Arthur’s perspective. The queen’s act of infidelity and the anger which it has brought of the king can be easily accessed through the lines of the poem. The poem has been written in a free verse format. The tone of the poem is sarcastic. The poet had used the figurative languages in a very efficient way. The imagery and allusions from the biblical references has been used in the poem. The poet has mentioned the term ‘metaphor’ in the last stanza of the poem. This makes the poem in a unique piece of art altogether. The readers are assumed to read the poem in the way the poet wants them to read. The poet wants the readers to understand biblical references and hidden meaning. The color of the ‘cats’ and their presence creates a mysterious presence in the poem. The cats symbolize the prevailing of the evil and at the same time, they also represent the silent observer. King Arthur has observed the activities of the Queen and hence has decided to punish her for the deeds. The poem takes the form of a warning letter to the Queen. The ending lines highlight that the queen has to pay by giving her life as a punishment.

Read the following excerpt from Leslie Marmon Silko’s story “The Man to Send Rain Clouds.” They turned off the highway onto the sandy pueblo road. Not long after they passed the store and post office they saw Father Paul’s car coming toward them. When he recognized their faces he slowed his car and waved for them to stop. The young priest rolled down the car window. “Did you find old Teofilo?” he asked loudly. Leon stopped the truck. “Good morning, Father. We were just out to the sheep camp. Everything is O.K. now.” “Thank God for that. Teofilo is a very old man. You really shouldn’t allow him to stay at the sheep camp alone.” “No, he won’t do that any more now.” What does this dialogue reveal about the priest’s standing within the community? He is a trusted leader of the tribe. He is considered to be an outsider. He is a spiritual guide to the people. He is disliked by most of the people.

[ad_1]

Answer: The right answer is the B: He is considered to be an outsider.

Explanation: Leon and his brother-in-law, Ken, had found Teofilo’s corpse under a tree. However, when Father Paul, a Franciscan priest, asked them if they had found him, Leon did not mention that Teofilo had died. He did not openly lie to the priest, but he avoided mentioning Teofilo’s death to him. This shows that Father Paul was not considered part of the tribe, but an outsider that was trying to “impose” his faith and his religious practices on a community that already had its own.

Which excerpt from “The Man to Send Rain Clouds” best illustrates how Leon’s beliefs differ from those of Father Paul? “Well, I’m glad you understand. I hope I’ll be seeing you at Mass this week—we missed you last Sunday. See if you can get old Teofilo to come with you.” The priest smiled and waved at them as they drove away. Leon walked toward the old man’s bed. The red plaid shawl had been shaken and spread carefully over the bed, and a new brown flannel shirt and pair of stiff new Levi’s were arranged neatly beside the pillow. It was noontime now because the church bells rang the Angelus. They ate the beans with hot bread, and nobody said anything until after Teresa poured the coffee. Leon turned to look up at the high blue mountains in the deep snow that reflected a faint red light from the west. He felt good because it was finished, and he was happy about the sprinkling of the holy water; now the old man could send them big thunderclouds for sure.

Here are a few pointers; hope this is useful)

Ovation-by definition- is show of appreciation from an audience, for a person’s accomplishments or flaw.

“Everyone deserves a standing ovation because we all overcometh the world.”

A person’s accomplishment could be how they made a positive change in this world, strong leadership- that makes them a effective leader or simply helping others. A person’s flaw- mistakes in life, sin or even guilt should also be considered an appreciation- an ovation for representing mankind’s flaw and that humanity makes mistakes, fulfilling at least one deadly sin such as greed, lust, selfishness etc.

Thus, regardless of a person’s achievement or flaw- a person deserves an applause for, not the least, living in this society and this world that we are all living together and dying together.

That was just the introduction.. the best part is yet to come.. now it’s your turn!!

Here are other pointers to talk about in your essay:

Shakespeare’s famous line “All the World’s a stage. That agrees with your line: “Everybody deserves a standing ovation…”

Shakespeare explains that men and women are like players: they live, and die, some being celebrated and some forever living in solitude till their death. Shakespeare states the world is a “stage” which symbolizes that mankind is in its peak. The world is changing everyday: little by little and humanity is falling behind.
Due to our world turning into machinery: factories, an automotive future: where humans only job to live (entrance) and to die (exit) the famous humans remembered and the flawed not recalled.

This is according to Shakespeare’s imagery.

I don’t know what grade your in, but I think simplifying Shakespeare’s word of mouth in your essay would be handy and useful as it has strong references of your quote, and agrees strongly in your essay.

Hope this helps 🙂

1- The correct answer is B, as one result of the Great Society was that the lives of many underprivileged Americans improved.

The Great Society was a set of US national reform programs announced by President Lyndon B. Johnson for the first time in a speech at Ohio University on May 7, 1964 and more fully illustrated on May 22, 1964 at the University of Michigan. These reform programs were subsequently presented to the Congress of the United States and largely approved during the 1960s, thanks to the consent of its supporters of the Democratic Party.

Two main goals of social reforms were the elimination of poverty and racial injustice. During this period new large spending programs were launched in the fields of education, medical care, urban problems and transport. Johnson’s “Great Society” was linked, in its objectives and policies, to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal program.

Some proposals of the Great Society resumed initiatives contained in the New Frontier program, interrupted by the tragic death of President John F. Kennedy. Johnson’s success in promoting and endorsing his reforms depended on his considerable congressional political influence, his persuasion, and the favorable historical circumstances resulting from the 1964 presidential elections, which allowed the Democratic Party to dominate Congress and to elect the House of Representatives with the largest number of exponents of the liberal current since 1938.

The evolution of the Vietnam war and the massive involvement of the American military machine in the conflict, however, partly undermined the success of the “Great Society” program. Growing, huge expenditures for the continuation of the war made more difficult to finance the reform programs. Representatives of the Democratic Party against the war in Vietnam complained that military spending decisively stifled the Great Society program. On the whole, however, despite growing political and economic difficulties, which forced the administration to eliminate or reduce the financing of some projects, President Johnson managed to activate a series of programs of great importance, including Medicare, Medicaid, the Older Americans Act and the federal education funding, which are still active.

2- The correct answer is C, as the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was necessary because the previous existing American immigration policies were discriminatory.

On October 3, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the law into effect, saying: “The [old] system violates the basic principle of American democracy, the principle according to which the valuation and reward of each man should be established on the basis of his merits as a man. It has been anti-American in the highest sense, because it has been unfaithful to the faith that led thousands to these shores, even before we were a country. ”

1. The answer is “C”.

“Identical twins” who have been raised apart are typically more similar in intelligence level than biological siblings raised together because they have been born with the same genetic code.

Identical twins originate from a single fertilized egg that parts into two. Before it parts, it is either male or female. After it parts, there are either two guys or two females. The two sections of the fertilized egg embed in the uterus and every create one of the twins.

Identical twins have the equivalent hereditary source. No immediate reason for monozygotic twinning has been resolved; it isn’t innate. Monozygotic twins speak to around 33% all things considered. They may look strikingly comparative, and it might be hard to reveal to them separated.

2. The answer is “A”.

Lawrence Kohlberg felt that one of the only ways individuals will accomplish the objectives in each of his six stages was to participate in “consensus democracy” in small group settings.

Lawrence Kohlberg felt that the best way to support development through these stages was by discourse of good problems and by investment in consensus democracy inside small groups. Consensus democracy was rule by understanding of the gathering, not larger part rule. This would invigorate and widen the reasoning of youngsters and grown-ups, enabling them to advance starting with one phase then onto the next.

3. The answer is “D.  showing a learner how to correct common mistakes”.

The term scaffolding alludes to a procedure in which instructors display or exhibit how to take care of an issue, and afterward venture back, offering support as required. Analyst and instructional architect Jerome Bruner first utilized the term ‘scaffolding’ in this setting, harking back to the 1960s. The hypothesis is that when understudies are given the help they require while discovering some new information, they stand a superior possibility of utilizing that learning freely. Bruner suggests positive association and three methods of portrayal amid educating: activities, pictures, and dialect.

OPEC can have a great influence on the oil market, especially if it decides to reduce or increase its production level. 43% of world’s oil production and 81% of world’s oil reserves are in member countries.

OPEC also concentrates all the necessary capacity for oil production in the world, which, de facto, converts the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries into the central bank of the oil market.

Is it illegal to send prescription drugs through the mail?

[ad_1]

1. The most common problems that can be experienced when children are medicated are : they can get easily affected by different classes of drugs.Parents should keep in mind that children are more susceptible to the side effects that can come with the various classes of drugs and a child’s body does not absorb and eliminate drugs unlike an adult bodies and that can affect both developing brain of a child and its social development.
2. One of the main challenges that parents might come across while medicating children is actually the doubts : whether to medicate or not, as many parents all around the world are not sure that taking medications is a safe and effective treatment. This is caused by a controversy of opinions for and against this type of treatment. However, any qualified doctor can say, that time is everything to decide and waiting too much can be harmful to a child.3. The controversy over the increase in ADHD diagnoses in children is caused because of its ‘popularity’ among modern scientific centres. To be more exact, the criteria for ADHD have become far wider, so many children may be misdiagnosed due to this wide range of possible symptoms. This information is still not proven, as many other scientists assured that ADHD must be studied in details.
4. The main reason why it is difficult to diagnose ADHD disorder in children is that there is no physical test like blood test or so. Also, there is no single cause that can lead to ADHD, if it happens – it is a complex problem. And there is no one common system of assessment of ADHD so it studies differently in different medical and scientific centres.5. Some of the issues with ADHD medications for children are side effects. Most of the known therapies devoted to the treatment of ADHD include drugs and this can cause many forms of side effects. Some people believe that it can be treated without medications, whereas other believe in complex treatment including physical and psychological intervention.
6. Scientists should not accept money from drug companies for their research because it simply goes out of humaneness. Many people are used to rely on proven medical experts and if all of them would advertise drugs because of the financial ‘reward’ of a profit from the drug companies, the treatment of many diseases would be uneffective.
7. The ethical responsibility which health scientists have when treating children is personal approach to every child that has to take a treatment. A child’s body is more susceptible to treatment factors that adult’s body so scientists always pay attention to individual tolerability of treatment of children. Besides children’s susceptibility they are also very sensitive so the main ethical responsibility is also to make a child feel safe.8.Should doctors continue to prescribe ADHD medications to children
This question is still be the most controversial one. It causes arguments among many scientists from different places of the planet, so it is hard to give the correct answer. But I think that  If parents are against ADHD medications they can ask a doctor to change the flow of a therapy or ask another specialist and organize individual treatment without including drugs.

If you send a sound wave of the same wavelength (λ = 2.00 m) through air, helium, and carbon dioxide, describe how the pitch of the sound will compare through each medium.

[ad_1]

My answer –

Electrical pressure, called “electro-motive force” (EMF), is what causes current
to flow in an electrical circuit. EMF is measured in volts. Pressure and the quantity of electricity transmitted can be considered analogous to pressure and quantity of water flowing in pipes: the longer the distance, the higher is the flow of water (called the “flow of electrical charge, which is also known as the “electric current”). That is why, for long distance transmission, high pressure (voltage for electricity) is required, failing which, the current – and therefore the power – will not reach the intended destination. Instead, it will be lost (also called “dissipate”) along the way. We can think of electrical

current as the quantity of electricity which will be drawn from the pipeline

cables for electricity) at the pressure (= voltage) required.

It oxidies iron and inorganic sulfur compounds. The oxidation process can be harmful, as it produces sulfuric acid, which is a major pollutant. It has been suggested that T. ferrooxidans forms a symbiotic relationship with members of the genus Acidiphilium, a bacterial capable of iron reduction. Other species of Thiobacillus grow in water and sediment; there are both freshwater and marine strains.

The bacteria are usually found in rivers, canals, mine drainage effluents and mining areas. So there may be some source of these bacilli near their house. They require inorganic sources to grow and contain an enzyme called ferrous oxidase that allows them to metabolize iron.
They eat iron pipes corroding the pipes leading into households and produce a thick slime layer  biofilm.

Your answer would be the fourth one.

Here’s why:

Chromosomes are what you’d find in the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell. Remember that eukaryotes have a nucleus, which defines them as such.

In the nucleus chromosomes are in a relaxed state called chromatin. The chromatin forms into those tight coils of DNA which we call chromosomes. Each chromosomes has a multitude of genes on them. These genes are responsible for hair color and skin pigment, or genetic diseases in your body, the list goes on.

The image I provided should help explain visually.

“A ship lost at sea for many days suddenly sighted a friendly vessel. From the mast of the unfortunate vessel was seen a signal, “Water, water; we die of thirst!” The answer from the friendly vessel at once came back, “Cast down your bucket where you are.” A second time the signal, “Water, water; send us water!” ran up from the distressed vessel, and was answered, “Cast down your bucket where you are.” And a third and fourth signal for water was answered, “Cast down your bucket where you are.” The captain of the distressed vessel, at last heeding the injunction, cast down his bucket, and it came up full of fresh, sparkling water from the mouth of the Amazon River. To those of my race who depend on bettering their condition in a foreign land or who underestimate the importance of cultivating friendly relations with the Southern white man, who is their next-door neighbor, I would say: “Cast down your bucket where you are”— cast it down in making friends in every manly way of the people of all races by whom we are surrounded.” Booker T. Washington, 1895 In this passage, Washington is urging African Americans to A) start a new life in South America. B) work more closely with whites in the South. C) start a revolution against the United States. D) form groups to fight against the Ku Klux Klan.

1. Free trade

2. Competition

3. Domestic

Free trade agreements allow for easy trade between countries and can lower prices, but can create a loss of jobs for one country while the other gains employment.

The US has a free trade agreement with Mexico and Canada called the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Though it has reduced the prices of natural resources and manufactured goods, it has also resulted in jobs leaving the US and moving to Mexico. Increased free trade agreements have been signed but continue to be criticized as hurting the US job market.
