Because of our sense of belonging and loyalty to in-groups, we often tend to judge our own group’s traits as virtues, but see the same traits in other groups as vices. this judgment of superiority is an example of ________.

[ad_1]

Answered by answersmine AT 22/10/2019 – 04:35 AM

It is an example of double standard. This judgment superiority is unjust because it is usually applied to different people or other group of people with how they act or behave towards other people and in the society. It could be seen above as because of this standard, it makes a person view other people differently because he or she does not belong to that particular group.

The Reformation actually started after Columbus’s landing in North America.

Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494 was forced on Spain and Portugal by the Pope. The Pope basically said that all lands in the New World belonged to Spain and all new non-Christian lands in the Eastern Hemisphere belong to Portugal. No other Catholic countries can do anything in those areas without the approval of the owner.

The pope basically drew two lines on the globe setting the border. The western line started at the north pole cut half way through Greenland and ended at the south pole. The new world was everything to the west. Problem is that it ran through a chunk of Brazil which is why Brazil is an ex-Portuguese colony.

The Eastern line starts at the North Pole runs through siberia, through the pacific just west of Japan, and cuts Australia in half. Of course, Australia hadn’t been discovered yet. Everything to the the east of this line is the new world.

Obviously, this treaty didn’t hold up well, but the reformation gave the protestant countries an excuse to explore the new world since they didn’t have to take orders from the Pope. Even so, France, a catholic country, ignored it too.

Really, the only country that was effected by the reformation in the exploration of the Americas was England. All the other countries, changed their religion once and then went to war with the nearest catholic country. Sweden became Lutheran and stayed that way. The Dutch Republic became Calvinists and stayed that way.

England kept switching. First it was Catholic. Then, Henry VIII made it protestant. Then, Henry’s daughter Mary I made it catholic again. Henry’s other daughter Elizabeth I (with the two hit movies) made it Protestant again.

Years latter, Oliver Cromwell over through the monarchy, executed the King Charles I, and established a Protestant fundamentalist religious military dictatorship. He outlawed drinking, smoking, gambling, theater, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and anything generally fun. He would have made Saudi Arabia proud. Basically, all you could do is work, pray, and die. Sex was allowed for creating children, but you couldn’t enjoy it.

When Cromwell died, the people of England said enough was enough and brought back the King. Charles II kicked out the fundamentalists and brought back drinking, smoking, gambling, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and having fun during sex. Incidentally, those were also all his hobbies.

This brings us to the famous Pilgrims. They were part of Cromwell’s crowd. They kept agitating a return to the no-fun policy. They annoyed everybody. They weren’t persecuted for practicing their religion, they were persecuted because they kept trying to force their religion on everyone else. Sort of like Southern Baptists.

Charles II was the most easy going monarch in British history. Do realize how annoying you have to be to get him to throw you out.

Charles’s brother James II was obsessed with turning Great Britain catholic again. After four years of trying, they kicked him and his followers out.

You get a sense of accomplishment from doing several things at once.

[ad_1]

Explanation:

Society, in fact, requires that people take some responsibilities and, indeed, play a role. As this is so important for the appropriate function of this system, it’s necessary that each person knows what his/her duties are, however, these won’t be the same through life, like babies, who have a different role from a student and a worker. For this reason people should be able to identify what their strengths are how they can use this to favor the current society.

As the individuals have to identify how they can help from their positions, it’s also expected that the society gives them back some rights in order to, somehow, return what people is trying to offer. In conclusion, individuals should target their best features and try to understand how they could be used in favor of the system, but also, the society has to return them, in any way, the work they’re doing.

To stroke my parrot on the wood chair,
To be bold and brave and happy as can be,
To trek and travel and sail the seven seas.

According john Locke, the only way people acquire new knowledge is by conducting various observations to the things that happened around us.

Because of this, John Locke would not believe in an idea that state knowledge is already acquired since birth without having to make any efforts.

The best answer choice, from the long list of possible disorders that Mary may be experiencing, given the list of symptoms and the information on the question, would be: PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Explanation:

When a person seeks to cause self-harm, and you wish to know what disorder may lead this person to do that, there are several options to choose from: borderline personality disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders, and another form of anxiety disoderds, PTSD. Given the information on this question about Mary, aside from her taking antidepressants, and engaging in therapy, she is dealing with tendencies of sel-harm, but she is also having to learn coping mechanisms, develop her self-respect and most importantly, deal with past traumatic experiences. These facts lead towards PTSD more strongly than any other disorder. Most likely, Mary had to deal with abuse, or seeing someone in that situation, and since PTSD can express itself a while after the event took place, it seems like the best fit here.

In Common Sense, Paine suggested that American independence from Britain was A: Inevitable B: impossible C: uncertain D: illegal

[ad_1]

In Common Sense, Paine suggested that American independence from Great Britain was inevitable.

Further Explanation:

Common Sense was a famous pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1776. Paine was an English man who was visiting the American colonies and felt that the relationship between Great Britain and the colonists was highly ineffective. In this pamphlet, Paine argued that American would inevitably become free from British rule. The following is a list of some of the arguments made by Paine:

1) The thousands of miles between Great Britain and the American colonies make it extremely difficult for the colonial governments to work properly.

2) The American colonists are continually dragged into British wars with other countries (example= French and Indian War).

3) The American colonists have plenty of resources and trade opportunities with other countries (besides) Britain which would ensure their continued economic success.

These types of arguments convinced many American colonists that becoming completely free from British rule is the best decision possible. The ideas from this book even influenced the writing of the Declaration of Independence.

The correct options are:

  • military dictatorships
  • rebellions and insurgencies
  • high rates of poverty

After gaining its independence, the young nation faced several problems: the country had to be rebuilt from the ravages of war and reach an agreement with several Japanese collaborators and entrepreneurs to begin their economic development. Meanwhile, the Hukbalahap, a rebel communist army that previously fought against the Japanese, remained active in rural areas. Finally, this threat was addressed by the Secretary of National Defense and later president Ramón Magsaysay, although some sporadic cases of communist insurgency continued to be presented. In 1965, Ferdinand Marcos was elected president, with his wife Imelda Marcos at his side. As the Constitution forbade being re-elected more than twice for the presidential office, at the end of his second term he declared martial law on September 21, 1972. To continue governing by decree, he used as arguments the political division, the tension of the War Cold and the specter of the communist rebellion and the Islamic insurgency in the country. Thus began a dictatorship that lasted more than ten years and was characterized by strict control of the economy and political repression.

The return of democracy and reforms to the government after the events of 1986 were hampered by the national debt, corruption, coup attempts, a persistent Communist insurgency and Islamic separatist movements. Although the economy improved during the administration of Fidel V. Ramos, who was elected president in 1992, the start of the 1997 Asian financial crisis halted these advances.

Answer:

b. Common stock gives shareholders one vote per share owned, while shareholders of preferred stock do not have voting rights.

Explanation:

Both, preferred and common stock constitute a piece of ownership in a company. However, there are differences between preferred and common stock. One of the differences is that preferred does not have voting rights. Preferred shareholders have no voice in electing the board of directors, company policies or the future of the company. In the other hand preferred stockholders have a bigger claim to a company’s dividends which are usually higher than those issued for common stock.

Common stock holders get to vote on corporate issues, such as electing new directors to the corporation’s board and can make a profit through rising share prices and dividend payments. However, should the company files for bankruptcy, holders of common stock are last on the list to get their money back after regular creditors and holders of preferred stock. If you hold common stock and the company goes bust, you are unlikely to get any of your capital back.

To ensure producers are responsible for products is through common stockholders who have a saying in the company’s production policies.
