DESIGN RULES: Principles + Practices for Great UI Design

Description

When it comes to User Interface (UI) design, your job — whether you’re a designer, developer, UXer or a mix of all those things — is to make sure that no aspect of someone’s onscreen interaction happens without explicit intent. The UI design choices we make have to reflect the user’s motivationsexpectationsenvironment and possible actions.

All of those things manifest themselves in the User Interface — so what people see on the screen is usually the sum of their understanding about what this is and how it works.

So what we show them has to do a hell of a job communicating what’s there for them, how it’s organized, how they get to it and what they can do with it once they do.

The principles, practices and real-world techniques I’m going to show you here are the same ones that have informed graphic design for hundreds of years. And while that may sound like blasphemy to some of you, I guarantee you’ll see why and how they apply equally to the world of digital design— especially for mobile devices and their small screens.

I’m going to give you 50 lessons packed with timeless, ironclad, unchanging rules for good UI design that you can apply to anything and everything you ever work on. Trends will come and go, and it won’t matter: your UI will still be useful, usable, appropriate and relevant for its users.

You’ll learn how to make it easier for people to interact with what they see on the screen – whether they know what to tap, swipe or click, and whether what happens meets their expectationsand moves them closer to their goals. You’ll learn how to create and apply hierarchycolorcontrasttypography and gestalt principles to design appropriate visual cues so people know where and how to take action.

I’ll show you how to make good visual decisions for even the most challenging applications, from simplifying complex visual information to designing with data. My goal with this course is to give you everything you need to know to make great UI design decisions, no matter what the content, context or product may be.

From this point forward, you’ll be equipped to make strategic, impactful User Interface designs that communicateguideencouragemotivate and educate. Anything else is decoration, and decoration has a very short shelf life.

By the time you finish Design Rules, you’ll be able to do much more than create a more beautiful User Interface. Instead, you’ll be able to design a UI that truly works for the people who use it. One that it allows them to easily figure out where to start and how to get what they need — quickly, efficiently and intuitively.

Of course, it’ll also just happen to be beautiful 😉

Who this course is for:

  • Print and Digital Designers, Web and App Developers and anyone looking to take their UI work to the next level!

“That you want us to call him Nikhil.” “That is correct.” Mrs. Lapidus nods. “The reason being?” “That is our wish.” “I’m not sure I follow you, Mr. Ganguli. Do you mean that Nikhil is a middle name? Or a nickname? Many of the children go by nicknames here. On this form there is a space—” “No, no, it’s not a middle name,” Ashoke says. He is beginning to lose patience. “He has no middle name. No nickname. The boy’s good name, his school name, is Nikhil.” Mrs. Lapidus presses her lips together and smiles. “But clearly he doesn’t respond.” “Please, Mrs. Lapidus,” Ashoke says. “It is very common for a child to be confused at first. Please give it some time. I assure you he will grow accustomed.” Which statement best explains how Lahiri explores conflict brought on by globalization? 1.Lahiri uses descriptions to compare elements of traditional schooling in different cultures. 2.Lahiri uses the characters’ actions to show how people from different cultures can work together to resolve conflicting values. 3.Lahiri uses the setting to highlight her opinions on the educational systems in both the United States and India. 4.Lahiri uses dialogue to show how people from different cultures can have difficulty relating to each other’s experiences.

These are 3 questions and 3 answers.

Question 1.

Answer: I = 0.01 A

Explanation:

a) Data:

i) Type of circuit: series

ii) R₁ = 100 Ω

ii) R₂ = 100 Ω

iii) V = 2 V

iv) I = ?

b) Formulas

i) Equivalent resistance, R = R₁ + R₂

ii) Ohm’s law, V = IR

c) Solution

i) R = 100Ω + 100Ω = 200Ω

ii) I = V / R = 2 V / 200Ω = 0.01 A

Question 2)

Answer: False.

Explanation:

The nuclear model of the atom states that the atom is neutral, and consists of a nucleus, which holds the protons and the neutrons, and the electrons which are around the nucleous (in regions called orbintals).

The electrons are negatively charged and the protons are positively charged.

The magnitudes of the charges of both electrons and protons are equal.

Therefore, for the atom be neutral, the neutrons cannot have charge.

Question 3.

Answer: oppose (or resist).

Explanation:

1) The most basic electrical circuit consists of a 1) potential difference (voltage) source, which gives the “impulse” to the charge to flow, 2) the wire, which is the medium through which the charge flows), and 3) a resistor.

The resistor is the element with “resistance” to the flow of charge, this is it resists or oppose the flow of charge.

Some components, like motors, filaments, buzzers, which content or are resistors per se, transform the current (flow of charge) in other useful forms of energy (motion, light, heat, sound).

The resistor meets Ohm’s law which states R = V / I, at constant temperature.

(Economics) Bartering involves exchanging goods and services. But today _______ can be exchanged for goods and services.

The correct answer is – money.

The bartering is a traditional and very old method in the economics. It is a method based on the exchange of one good for another good, proportionally to their value of course. This method has been largely abandoned throughout the developing and well developed countries, but it can still be found in use in the less developed countries.

In the today’s economies though, the much more used method is the exchange of money for goods and services. The money have been invented in order to be an easy and practical method for trade since few thousand years ago, and their power and importance had steadily increased as the time was passing.

Explain how the Framers of the Constitution divided American government to create a democracy. a) Describe and give examples of the two systems in place that protect against one branch having too much power. b) Why are these systems important to American democracy?

The Framers of the Constitution divided American government into three branches: the executive, legislative, and judicial. This created a better democracy because the power is not concentrated within one branch or in the hands of a few.

The systems in

place that protect against one branch having too much power is called “separation of powers” and “checks and balances.” This system keeps each branch from getting too powerful by limiting its powers. For example, the legislative branch can pass a law but the president veto it. That’s a way the executive branch checks the legislative. And let’s say the legislature really wants to pass that law, so they vote on it. With 2/3 majority of votes for the law, Congress can override the president’s veto. That’s a way the legislative branch checks on the executive. And let’s say that although that law was passed by the legislature, some say that it’s unconstitutional. If that happens, then the judicial branch checks out the law and can declare it unconstitutional. If it’s declared unconstitutional, then the law will be no longer enforced or valid. That’s a way the judicial branch checks the other branches.

Other examples of “checks and balances” is how the president is in charge of the armed forces, but only Congress can declare war. The judicial branch interprets laws and their constitutionality, but the president appoint the federal judges. The president appoints the federal judges, but the legislative branch has to approve those officials. The legislative branch also decides how many judges would be in the Supreme Court. The president can veto and the judicial can repeal laws, but the legislature can impeach the president and federal judges/officials.

These systems are important to American democracy because they keep the government from getting too powerful and oppressing the people.

How did the power of the Catholic Church expand in the Middle Ages?

1. Providing a form of social cohesion prior to the rise of Nationalism. Islam and Christianity both fulfilled the same purposes in this regard. This allowed the Church to set the guidelines for morality and heavily influenced legality, making them as powerful and sometimes more powerful than the state.

2. Giving the serfs a sense of hope in the hereafter, to alleviate their grievances in this life. By making them accept their lot in life it promised them paradise in the next. This was an essential factor in keeping them under control, something that the nobility needed to maintain.

3. Being able to excommunicate was a dreaded punishment-not only did it ban you from an afterlife-anyone who supported you could also be punished. To your subjects-you were less important than the will of God, so if you were excommunicated, they would panic and might well revolt against you, as well as making you a social pariah.

Which of the three economic systems (market, planned, and mixed) do you believe address the issue of scarcity the best? Give two examples of why this system is superior to the other choices.

[ad_1]

Scarcity is the fundamental challenge that all individuals and nations must confront. Everyone faces some limitations, so we all have to make choices where we limit or allow ourselves to something.

Economists generally recognize four types of economic systems traditional, traditional, command, market and mixed.

A traditional economic system is shaped by tradition. The work that people do, the goods and services they provide, how they exchange resources… all tend to follow a pattern. The traditional system is bad at addressing scarcity because scarcity is formed off of new requirements people have through the ages and a traditional system would not evolve just as our requirements would.

In a planned economy, the government controls the economy. The state decides how to use and distribute resources. The government regulates prices and wages; it may even determine what sorts of work individuals do.
Socialism is a prime example of a planned economy. Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with the fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives.

Market economies allow all economic decisions to be made by individuals. The unrestrained interactions between individuals and companies in the marketplace determine what happens to all the good and resources.Individuals choose how to invest their personal resources and individuals decide what to consume. Within a pure market economy,  the government is entirely absent from economic affairs.

A mixed economic system combines elements of the market and command economy. Many economic decisions are made in the market by individuals. But the government also plays a role in the allocation and distribution of resources.

If scarcity is looked at on a macro level, the best economic system is mixed because it allows the government to also plays a role in the allocation and distribution of resources, while the individuals still stay happy because they have some control. The only problem is the eternal question of what the right mix between the public and private sectors of the economy should be.

There is no point to look at it on a micro level because almost no country is small enough to be considered on that level.

l economic systems (capitalist, communist, or any other) face similar economic problems. Which of the following questions would NOT be faced by all economies?1)How many resources will be devoted to maintaining and increasing future capacity?2)What will be produced and how?3)For whom will the goods be produced?4)How can markets be kept competitive?

[ad_1]

Answered by answersmine AT 22/10/2019 – 04:07 AM

I would say that the question “How can markets be kept competitive” would not be important for a communist or socialist society as production would not be to meet a world capitalist market price but would be for fulfilling the basic necessities of the people like healthcare and education and food and clothing as well as for mutually beneficial trade with other countries on an equitable basis.

Answer:

C) Nations begin to rely on each other for things they cannot produce themselves.

Explanation:

Globalization can lead to interdependence among nations. One of the most common ways in which this happens is through free trade. When two countries trade, they exchange goods and services. If the relationship is long and stable enough, the population can come to rely on the other country’s goods, which might not be produced in their country, or might be produced at a much higher price.

At any level of organization, groups that have biological meaning are referred to as A. systems. B. cladograms. C. taxa. D. binomials.

[ad_1]

There are two systems in the human body that are responsible for the coordination between the functions of different systems to achieve the unity of the living organism’s body. These two systems are the nervous system and the endocrine system. The action of the nervous system is fast and takes a short time, while the action of the endocrine system is slow and takes a long time.

The functional unit of the nervous system is the nerve cell or the neuron. The neuron consists of a cell body and the axon. The cell body starts with the dendrites that receive the messages or the impulses from other neurons or from different sense organs or receptors. These impulses are then transmitted through the cell body. The cell body contains a nucleus and different organelles which help the nerve cell to perform its functions. The nerve impulse is then transmitted to the axon.

The axon is an extension from the cell body. There are some cells called Schwan cells that secrete a myelin sheath to insulate the axon from the surrounding medium. The insulated axons have more ability to conduct the impulses than non-insulated axons. The axon ends with the terminal arborizations. The terminal arborizations of a nerve cell connect to the dendrites of the next cell or to the afferent organ. The gaps between the dendrites and the terminal arborizations are called the synapses.

The nerve impulse is an electrochemical phenomenon i.e. an electrical phenomenon with a chemical nature. The membrane of the axon acts as a barrier between an outside positively charged medium and an inside negatively charged medium. This makes a potential difference of  -70mV. This state is called the resting potential. When the membrane is subjected to a stimulus, the positive charges enter to inside and the negative charges exit to the outside. The potential difference now becomes +40mV. This state is called the depolarization state. The point of stimulation acts as a new stimulus for the next point and so on. The membrane sooner gains its permeability again and the positive charges return to the outside and the negative charges to inside. This state is called repolarization.

The nerve impulse reaches the synapse. There are some neurotransmitters that are excited by the nerve impulse coming and carry the message across the membrane. Some receptors receive theses neurotransmitters on the dendrites of the next neuron. These receptors act as a stimulus for the new cell.

The Contribution Margin per unit (CM) can be calculated
from the difference of Selling Price per unit (SP) and Total Expenses per unit
(TE).

First, let’s calculate the value of SP:

SP = Sales / Units sold

SP = $1,043,400 / 22,200 units sold

SP = $47

Second, calculate all expenses:

Direct materials per unit = $234,948 / 27,970 units
manufactured = $8.4

Direct labor per unit = $131,459 / 27,970 units
manufactured = $4.7

Variable manufacturing overhead per unit = $240,542 / 27,970
units manufactured = $8.6

Variable selling expenses per unit = $113,220 / 22,200
units sold = $5.1

TE = $26.8

Therefore the CM is:

CM = SP – TE

CM = $47 – $26.8

CM = $20.2 per unit

Family systems theory emphasizes __________ in family relationships.

[ad_1]

However, they also point out that it’s OK to have an unusual kind of family structure. On One Tree Hill, for example, Lucas is being raised by a single mom, and he has a close relationship with his uncle, but his dad isn’t completely out of the picture. On a teen show such as iCarly, on Nick, Carly’s older brother plays the role of guardian, because her dad is in the Air Force. Her mom is never really spoken of.

2. I do feel that most of the portrayal of family is accurate, on TV. Modern shows have steered away from the conventional “Mom, Dad, 2.5 kids plus dog” formula, which is accurate, because not all TV watchers are fortunate enough to have that kind of situation. See above answer for specific examples.

3. I think that a definite negative theme in today’s modern shows, revolve around views on alcohol and drugs. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own views, but more often than not, after a character drinks, or does something they shouldn’t, they panic about what their parents will do once they find out. This panic may lead them to increasingly dangerous situations. For example, in OTH, Nathan is drinking, and then goes out to drive his girlfriend’s car. When he crashes it into another car, he realizes the trouble he is in, and leaves the scene of the accident; thus potentially getting him in even more trouble. I realize that TV is in no way an accurate depiction of all life aspects, and it is “only TV”, but I think Nathan should have faced the consequences right away, because by running from the scene, he only put himself in danger of being caught, or arrested. Again, though, I’m reading too much into it.

What effect did the passing of the Embargo Act of 1807 by Jefferson have upon the United States? American production increased. New factory systems developed. Trade with England increased.

Karl Marx developed the economic theory of communism.

Further Explanation:

One of Karl Marx’s most famous contributions came in his book the Communist Manifesto. This book explained Mark’s views on government, the economy, and ultimately lead to the creation of communism as an idea.

A communism system is one that is economic and political in nature. In this system, the government would control the means of production, the distribution of goods and resources, and would overall have significant control over society. This system of communism is the opposite of the capitalist/democratic system used in America today. These two ideologies would clash during the mid 20th century in what is now known as the Cold War.

Marx’s ideas were based on his observations of the world around him. He felt that the mistreatment of labor by industry and private corporations would ultimately lead to an uprising by angry laborers all over the world.

So hmmm we’ll start off by using the decimal format for the percentage, thus 15% is just 15/100 or 0.15 and 7% is just 7/100 or 0.07 and so on

notice, the concentration of alcohol in the 15% is, well, 0.15 :), so for a quantity of whatever, it’d be 0.15whatever

anyway, for water… water has no alcohol whatsoever, so the concentration is 0%, or 0/100 which is 0.00 or a flat 0

bf begin{array}{lccclll}
&amount&concentration&
begin{array}{llll}

water&x&0.00&0x\
-----&-----&-------&-------\
textit{7% mixture}&y&0.07&0.07y
end{array}

we know that we’ll be adding “x” water with the 14mL to get “y”, thus 14+x = y

and the concentrated quantities will also add up to -> 14(0.15) = 2.1, thus
2.1 + 0x = 0.07y

Which of the following systems argued the the new wealth generated by the Industrial Revolution would be put to the best use if it was employed cooperatively?

[ad_1]

1- The correct answer is B, as one result of the Great Society was that the lives of many underprivileged Americans improved.

The Great Society was a set of US national reform programs announced by President Lyndon B. Johnson for the first time in a speech at Ohio University on May 7, 1964 and more fully illustrated on May 22, 1964 at the University of Michigan. These reform programs were subsequently presented to the Congress of the United States and largely approved during the 1960s, thanks to the consent of its supporters of the Democratic Party.

Two main goals of social reforms were the elimination of poverty and racial injustice. During this period new large spending programs were launched in the fields of education, medical care, urban problems and transport. Johnson’s “Great Society” was linked, in its objectives and policies, to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal program.

Some proposals of the Great Society resumed initiatives contained in the New Frontier program, interrupted by the tragic death of President John F. Kennedy. Johnson’s success in promoting and endorsing his reforms depended on his considerable congressional political influence, his persuasion, and the favorable historical circumstances resulting from the 1964 presidential elections, which allowed the Democratic Party to dominate Congress and to elect the House of Representatives with the largest number of exponents of the liberal current since 1938.

The evolution of the Vietnam war and the massive involvement of the American military machine in the conflict, however, partly undermined the success of the “Great Society” program. Growing, huge expenditures for the continuation of the war made more difficult to finance the reform programs. Representatives of the Democratic Party against the war in Vietnam complained that military spending decisively stifled the Great Society program. On the whole, however, despite growing political and economic difficulties, which forced the administration to eliminate or reduce the financing of some projects, President Johnson managed to activate a series of programs of great importance, including Medicare, Medicaid, the Older Americans Act and the federal education funding, which are still active.

2- The correct answer is C, as the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was necessary because the previous existing American immigration policies were discriminatory.

On October 3, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the law into effect, saying: “The [old] system violates the basic principle of American democracy, the principle according to which the valuation and reward of each man should be established on the basis of his merits as a man. It has been anti-American in the highest sense, because it has been unfaithful to the faith that led thousands to these shores, even before we were a country. ”

Which is the common name for a program that has no useful purpose, but attempts to spread itself to other systems and often damages resources on the systems where it is found?

[ad_1]

I guess you need to write it using C++, so here’s your solution:
int main() {   string secondVerse = “Banana-fana fo-f(Name)!”;   string userName = “Kattie”;
   userName.erase(userName.begin());
userName.resize(userName.length()); secondVerse = secondVerse.replace(secondVerse.find(“(Name)”),6 ,userName);
cout

 return 0;
}

 “userName.erase(userName.begin());” – this one removes first letter of the name.

Which of the following sensory systems does NOT affect balance? olfactory somatosensory vestibular visual

[ad_1]

The answer to the question above is GENDER. This is the factor that does not affect one’s cardiorespiratory endurance. Based on the options, tobacco, age, and heredity are factors that can affect it. For gender, it does not matter whether someone is male or female. By definition, cardiorespiratory endurance is the how the activities of the heart, lungs, and muscles are measured and assessed. Both genders can improve their cardiorespiratory endurance by doing aerobic exercises.

6x+9y=12 2x+3y=6 I need to know how to do systems of equations

[ad_1]

The answer is:  ” y = 2x + 5 “.
_________________________________________
{Refer to the graph of the equation; as an “attached image”.}.
___________________________________________
Explanation:
___________________________________________
Note: The equation of a line; in “point slope form”; also known as:  “slope-intercept form”;  is: ” y = mx + b “

which is:
_________________________________
” y = mx + b ” ;

in which:
“y” is a single, “stand-alone” variable on the “left-hand side of the equation”; “m” is the coefficient of “x”; also:
“m” is the slope of the line; which is what we want to solve for;
“b” is the “y-intercept”; or more precisely, the value of “x”
(that is; the “x-coordinate”) of the point at which “y = 0”;
that is, the value of “x” ; or the “x-coordinate” of the point at which
the graph of the equation crosses the “x-axis”.
________________________________________
Given the coordinate of any TWO (2) points on the line:

Calculate the slope, “m”  =  (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁) ;

Given the two points: “(-2,1)” and “(4,13)” ;
________________________________________
(x₁, y₁) ↔ (-2, 1) ;  x₁, = -2 ;   y₁ = 1 ;

(x₂, y₂) ↔ (4, 13);  x₂ = 4 ; y₂ = 13 ;
__________________________________
 →  m =  (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁)  = (13 − 1) /  [(4 − (-2)]  ;
                                             = 12 / (4+2) ;
                                             = 12 / 6 ;
                                             = 2 ;
__________________________________
So, we know that:  “m = 2” .
_________________________
 In “point-slope form” :
__________________________
  → ” y = mx + b ” ;

So, we can write:  y = 2x + b ;

We need to solve for “b”.
____________________________
  →   When “y = 0” , what does “x” equal?  The answer to this question, is the value for “b” (the “y-intercept” of the line of graph of this equation).
____________________________
One method is to plot these points on a graph;  and, using our known slope, “m = 2” ;  visually inspect the graph, plot other points; noting that the slope, “2”, is “rise over the run”; i.e. the “change in y” over “the change in x”;
   (i.e. “Δy /Δxgraph the equation) ; and determine the “x-coordinate” of the y-intercept).

The other method is to solve for “b” ; as follows:
____________________________________________

  →  y = 2x + b ;

Subtract “2x” from EACH SIDE of the equation; to isolate “b” on one side of the equation; and to solve for “b” ;
______________________________________

  →  y − 2x = 2x + b − 2x ;
______________________________
to get:  y − 2x = b ;
________________________
  ↔  b = y − 2x ;

  ↔ b = -2x + y ;

To solve for “b” ; take EITHER of the 2 points given;  and plug in the values for “x” and “y” into the equation, to solve for “b”
________________________________________
  Let us try:  ” (-2, 1) ” :   x = -2,  y = 1  ;
________________________________________
  → b = -2x + y = -2(-2) + 1 = 4 + 1 = 5 ; →  b = 5 .
________________________________________
Alternately, and to confirm that “b = 5” ;  (Check our work):
________________________________________________
  Let us try the second point:  ” (4, 13) ” :
________________________________________________
 → b = -2x + y =  -2(4) + 13 = -8 + 13 = 5 ;  → b = 5 . Yes!
_________________________________________________
 So; we have:   →  y = 2x + b ;   and we know:  ” b = 5″ ; so we can write the equation:
__________________________________
        ” y = 2x + 5 ” .
__________________________________
The answer is:  ” y = 2x + 5 “.
__________________________________
{Refer to the graph of the equation; as an “attached image”}:
