1- The correct answer is B, as one result of the Great Society was that the lives of many underprivileged Americans improved.
The Great Society was a set of US national reform programs announced by President Lyndon B. Johnson for the first time in a speech at Ohio University on May 7, 1964 and more fully illustrated on May 22, 1964 at the University of Michigan. These reform programs were subsequently presented to the Congress of the United States and largely approved during the 1960s, thanks to the consent of its supporters of the Democratic Party.
Two main goals of social reforms were the elimination of poverty and racial injustice. During this period new large spending programs were launched in the fields of education, medical care, urban problems and transport. Johnson’s “Great Society” was linked, in its objectives and policies, to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal program.
Some proposals of the Great Society resumed initiatives contained in the New Frontier program, interrupted by the tragic death of President John F. Kennedy. Johnson’s success in promoting and endorsing his reforms depended on his considerable congressional political influence, his persuasion, and the favorable historical circumstances resulting from the 1964 presidential elections, which allowed the Democratic Party to dominate Congress and to elect the House of Representatives with the largest number of exponents of the liberal current since 1938.
The evolution of the Vietnam war and the massive involvement of the American military machine in the conflict, however, partly undermined the success of the “Great Society” program. Growing, huge expenditures for the continuation of the war made more difficult to finance the reform programs. Representatives of the Democratic Party against the war in Vietnam complained that military spending decisively stifled the Great Society program. On the whole, however, despite growing political and economic difficulties, which forced the administration to eliminate or reduce the financing of some projects, President Johnson managed to activate a series of programs of great importance, including Medicare, Medicaid, the Older Americans Act and the federal education funding, which are still active.
2- The correct answer is C, as the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was necessary because the previous existing American immigration policies were discriminatory.
On October 3, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the law into effect, saying: “The [old] system violates the basic principle of American democracy, the principle according to which the valuation and reward of each man should be established on the basis of his merits as a man. It has been anti-American in the highest sense, because it has been unfaithful to the faith that led thousands to these shores, even before we were a country. ”
The correct answer is B. She took a deep breath and stepped onto the sidewalk as her tears were drying.
The syntax is the study of grammatical structures in sentences, this means syntax deals with the rules and principles that guide the way language is used following specific structures including word order. Even though syntax can vary and the order of words in a sentence is not completely fixed, especially in the way real users of language use words, according to traditional syntax sentences should follow a specific order which is Subject (the one doing the action) + Verb (action) +Object (the object affected by the action).
In this way, this is the order words in a sentence should follow and the case of option B as the subject goes first, then is followed by a verb and then by an object, then a second verb is introduced and the object of it, a subject it is not placed before the second verb as the actions are connected to the first subject: She (Subject) took (Verb) a deep breath (Object) and stepped (Verb) onto the sidewalk as her tears were drying (Object). Thus, B is the sentence that follows the traditional syntax structure as it follows subject + verb + object.
The Holocaust also referred to as the Shoah was a genocide in which some six million European Jews were killed by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany, and the World War II collaborators with the Nazis. The victims included 1.5 million children, and constituted about two-thirds of the nine million Jews who had resided in Continental Europe. A broader definition of the Holocaust includes non-Jewish victims of the Nazi campaign of mass murder. The Romani and the Aktion T4 patients who were mentally and physically disabled are most commonly included among the broader victims, but can also include Soviet prisoners-of war, homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Slavs – including Soviet citizens, Poles, and other Slavic ethnic groups, blacks, political opponents of the Nazis, and other smaller groups.
Which best describes a hardship faced on the Trail of Tears? A) Travelers were not allowed to take shelter or bring supplies. B) Travelers had to march on foot for more than 200 days. The characteristics of each poem are:
- “I, Too” by Lansgton Hughes: 1, 6
1- This poem is a reference, and a sort of answer, to Whitman’s poem “I Hear America Singing.” In his poem, Whitman talks about how every American -mechanics, carpenters, boatmans- is singing. However, he makes no mention of black people. This is why the poem is entitled “I, Too,” to express that Hugues, an African American man, is still an American.
6- This poem does not have specific rhyme scheme or meter. Therefore, it is written in what is known as “free verse.”
- “From the Dark Tower” by Countee Cullen: 2, 3, 4, 5
2- The social injustice paradox means that social injustice is rooted in the lack of access to education, money and power, and that the solution lies in institutions which are always supported by those with money and power. This poem refers to this paradox because it refers to white people oppresing African Americans and not allowing them to be rightfully repaid for their work.
3- This poem is written in iambic pentameter and has a traditional (ABAB) rhyme scheme.
4- The poem symbolizes the great efforst black people did while working, only to have their profits taken by their white maters.
5- The whole poem is filled with an angry tone. Lines such as “Not always bend to some more subtle brute;” clearly express the resentment and repudiation she feels for white people.
Telephones, fax machines, and electronic mail transmit messages at many businesses.
The subject of a sentence is the noun that is doing the action. For instance, in the following sentence “boy” is the subject: The boy kicked the ball. A sentence, however, can have more than one subject, and this will be indicated usually with the conjunction “and.” When a sentence has more than one subject performing the same action, this is called a compound subject as in The boy and girl laughed. With that in mind, we can see that the final sentence of the sentences you provided has three subjects (telephones, fax machines, and electronic mail) that are performing the action “transmit.”
