According to the Declaration of Independence, what does the king of England want to establish in America? A. A republic B. A new parliament C. Absolute tyranny D. A democracy

[ad_1]

The Reformation actually started after Columbus’s landing in North America.

Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494 was forced on Spain and Portugal by the Pope. The Pope basically said that all lands in the New World belonged to Spain and all new non-Christian lands in the Eastern Hemisphere belong to Portugal. No other Catholic countries can do anything in those areas without the approval of the owner.

The pope basically drew two lines on the globe setting the border. The western line started at the north pole cut half way through Greenland and ended at the south pole. The new world was everything to the west. Problem is that it ran through a chunk of Brazil which is why Brazil is an ex-Portuguese colony.

The Eastern line starts at the North Pole runs through siberia, through the pacific just west of Japan, and cuts Australia in half. Of course, Australia hadn’t been discovered yet. Everything to the the east of this line is the new world.

Obviously, this treaty didn’t hold up well, but the reformation gave the protestant countries an excuse to explore the new world since they didn’t have to take orders from the Pope. Even so, France, a catholic country, ignored it too.

Really, the only country that was effected by the reformation in the exploration of the Americas was England. All the other countries, changed their religion once and then went to war with the nearest catholic country. Sweden became Lutheran and stayed that way. The Dutch Republic became Calvinists and stayed that way.

England kept switching. First it was Catholic. Then, Henry VIII made it protestant. Then, Henry’s daughter Mary I made it catholic again. Henry’s other daughter Elizabeth I (with the two hit movies) made it Protestant again.

Years latter, Oliver Cromwell over through the monarchy, executed the King Charles I, and established a Protestant fundamentalist religious military dictatorship. He outlawed drinking, smoking, gambling, theater, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and anything generally fun. He would have made Saudi Arabia proud. Basically, all you could do is work, pray, and die. Sex was allowed for creating children, but you couldn’t enjoy it.

When Cromwell died, the people of England said enough was enough and brought back the King. Charles II kicked out the fundamentalists and brought back drinking, smoking, gambling, dirty books, sports, prostitution, and having fun during sex. Incidentally, those were also all his hobbies.

This brings us to the famous Pilgrims. They were part of Cromwell’s crowd. They kept agitating a return to the no-fun policy. They annoyed everybody. They weren’t persecuted for practicing their religion, they were persecuted because they kept trying to force their religion on everyone else. Sort of like Southern Baptists.

Charles II was the most easy going monarch in British history. Do realize how annoying you have to be to get him to throw you out.

Charles’s brother James II was obsessed with turning Great Britain catholic again. After four years of trying, they kicked him and his followers out.

Which of the following explains a main Federalist concern? They feared a strong federal government would lead to tyranny. They thought a strong federal government would hurt foreign relations. They felt the Constitution gave too much power to the federal government. They worried if the states did not approve the Constitution, the nation would fall into chaos.

[ad_1]

Answer:

C) Nations begin to rely on each other for things they cannot produce themselves.

Explanation:

Globalization can lead to interdependence among nations. One of the most common ways in which this happens is through free trade. When two countries trade, they exchange goods and services. If the relationship is long and stable enough, the population can come to rely on the other country’s goods, which might not be produced in their country, or might be produced at a much higher price.

What fundamental conflict did henry r. luce imagine for the postwar world in the american century (1941)? a. one between freedom and tyranny b. one between men and women c. one between capitalism and socialism d. one between rich and poor e. one between black and white?

-Growth of ethnic nationalism throughout Europe and Middle East

The idea of the need of a “pure race” or of races of usurpers in the countries were getting common.

-Colonial groups looking for independence from imperialistic powers

This alone was more than reason for many to attack others from their own country. The problem is that the line is always blurry when it comes to decide the targets of the attack and who are actually the supporters of the enemy that deserve to be attacked. In the end, many just decided that just being against the cause was enough to add someone to the casualties.

-Spreading of communism and socialist ideas throughout the world

This enough generated many problems with the war between classes and the very troubling ideas of non existence of private properties and many other things that led straight up to physical conflicts, abuse of power and so on.

According to Mario Pei, slang is common to English as well as to foreign languages (80). Many words that were once considered slang are now words of full, legitimate standing in our language. Some of these words are strenuous, spurious, clumsy, and bogus. Even Shakespeare introduced into current usage such slang terms of his day as hubbub, fireworks, fretful, (to) bump, and (to) dwindle. Pei estimates that about 90 percent of all slang words eventually become permanent (Johns 12). What is the author’s style? He is using slang he is using a very formal style He is using a very informal style He is using critical style

The correct answer is B. He is using a very formal style

Explanation:

In writing, the style refers to the particular way in which a writer conveys a certain message that is determined by the words the writer uses. In the case of formal style, in this style, certain elements such as conventions of language and grammar, technical or complex words prevail while slangs, colloquial words or too informal words are avoided. This type of style can be identified in the text presented because the author of it avoid colloquial term or word and instead uses complex terms such as “legitimate standing in our language” or “Pei estimates that about 90 percent”. Therefore, in this case, the style can be mainly described as a very formal style.

An important element of an autobiography is self-evaluation or introspection. To Temperance he ascribes his long-continued health, and what is still left to him of a good constitution; to Industry and Frugality, the early easiness of his circumstances and acquisition of his fortune, with all that knowledge that enabled him to be a useful citizen, and obtained for him some degree of reputation among the learned; to Sincerity and Justice, the confidence of his country, and the honorable employs it conferred upon him; and to the joint influence of the whole mass of the virtues, even in the imperfect state he was able to acquire them, all that evenness of temper, and that cheerfulness in conversation, which makes his company still sought for, and agreeable even to his younger acquaintance. -I hope, therefore, that some of my descendants may follow the example and reap the benefit.- There is more than one, I put a “-” at the start and end of sentences to represent its underlined.

Emily is preparing a presentation to teach elementary students about safe swimming. Which tone is most appropriate for this purpose? a formal tone, because her purpose is to frighten young children a formal tone, because her purpose is to educate parents and teachers an informal tone, because her purpose is to inform young children an informal tone, because her purpose is to entertain parents and teachers

The third choice is correct: “an informal tone, because her purpose is to inform young children.” this correctly identifies her audience, for one. two of the answer choices mention “parents and teachers” which are irrelevant in this case, because she’s creating the presentation for the students, not the teachers/parents. the first answer choice lists her purpose as “frightening” the young children, which is entirely incorrect–she doesn’t want to scare them, she wants to explain to them in a slightly informal way, because children wouldn’t really understand “formal” language.
